Street Chic for Fashion Week
As New York Fashion Week draws to a close, it's only fitting for us to unpack what people wore this year on the city streets and how they incorporated this year's hottest trends into their everyday wear. While the outfits on the runway were stunning and provided a glimpse into many potential new trends that we may see emerging this season, we couldn't help but look into the unique fashion statements made on the streets of New York City.
If you've ever experienced the spectacle of fashion week firsthand or have lived vicariously through the lens of other people attending, it's no secret that - regardless of their destination - the streets of New York transform into an impromptu runway during the most fashionable time of the year.
Here at The Edge, we've compiled a New York Fashion Week lookbook featuring some of the street styles that have been living rent-free in our minds.
As many of you may have noticed, vintage fur is making a stylish comeback, and we're certainly here for it. It's time to rummage through your grandma's closet or hit the local thrift store and find some vintage fur to ramp up your next outfit.
We love it when unexpected elements come together in an outfit, like pairing baggy Levi jeans with a luxurious oversized fur jacket, complimented by a red Chanel bag and chic Mary-Jane cheetah flats. This whole look perfectly embodies the essence of streetwear basics but with an elevated twist. We also can't forget about the addition of the baseball hat because it's the perfect way to emphasize the laid-back nature of the outfit; plus, who doesn't love fur paired with a baseball hat?
We don't know about you, but we're absolutely drooling over this look. In the realm of fashion, 2024 has embraced animal prints, and what better way to showcase that than through this stunning cow print trench coat? While cheetah print is currently the frontrunner in the animal print trend, we expect an array of prints to make their mark throughout the year.
The simplicity of the black ballet flats in this outfit adds such a timeless touch. Ballet flats are an essential, and we highly recommend securing a pair for your spring wardrobe. As trends constantly evolve, certain classics endure, and these ballet flats effortlessly blend with the bold statement of the cow print trench, creating such a chic look.
These three outfits scream girl boss in the best way possible. The oversized pantsuit combines both chic and relaxed vibes, comfortable enough to wear everyday no matter where you are headed.
We've noticed a resurgence of the 2000s capri pants, and they are certainly making a bold comeback. We especially love this piece when paired with an oversized or cinched-waist blazer, complemented by kitten heels. These capri pants are definitely a trend that we should keep a keen eye on this season!
When in doubt, denim on denim is always a good idea. This iconic look, coined the 'Canadian Tuxedo' is such a classic that has recently reemerged in the fashion world. We believe the best way to wear a denim set is with a cute pair of kitten heels and fun accessories to dress it up. Adding eye-catching accessories to any look is the perfect way to add some personality and flair to a simple outfit. We're loving how the fur clutch is the main accessory in this outfit, bringing a touch of luxury to the look. So don't be afraid to mix the denims in your closet and recreate this look with your own twist!
We hope these NYFW streetwear looks inspire some of your wardrobe pieces for the season! If you decide to incorporate some of these trends into your next outfit, we'd love to see your take on them. Make sure to tag us @theedgemag!
