How to Break Through the Internet Micro Trend

In the age of internet overconsumption, it can be really difficult to keep up with the latest trends. Each one comes and goes faster than you can blink, and it feels like you’re always one step behind. TikTok has become the home for these microtrends, with terms like “strawberry milk nails” and “tomato girl makeup” being the major trends for a week and then getting replaced with another trend by a similar name that will leave just as fast.

We at The Edge believe in breaking through these trends, emphasizing the importance of personal style and wearing what you like, regardless of what your favorite influencer is wearing. Here are some of our tips to help beat the microtrend burnout:

Invest in some classic pieces: you can never go wrong with a classic pair of straight-leg jeans. The Levi’s 501s have been a favorite for decades because good quality never goes out of style. Find some classic sweaters that you know will always be in style. That way, no matter what the trend cycle is, you’ll always be looking stylish!

Find things that make you happy: Personal style is all about wearing things that make you happy, even if they may not be trendy. Find clothes and accessories that bring you joy and keep wearing them, no matter the trend cycle. Being happy will always be in style!

Thrift Thrift Thrift!: Thrift stores are full of clothes that need a good home! If you’re super into keeping up with trends, finding pieces at a thrift store is the best way to do so sustainably. Thrift pieces that you love, and then bring them back to the thrift again when you’re done with them to keep them out of a landfill and into a loving closet!

All of us are unique, and our clothes should reflect that! Don’t let microtrends define your style. Get creative, wear what makes you happy and have fun with fashion!
