“Hanging Up To Hangout”

We all know that awful feeling when the weekly screen time report notification comes up on our phones. Don’t be embarrassed—you’re not alone! Here at The Edge, we understand that it’s easy to fall into the trap of “doom scrolling” on our phones. Fall is approaching and there are endless ways to disconnect, get outside and see your friends! Luckily for you, we know all about the importance of spending quality time with your people—in real life!

The First Step is Acceptance…

You are addicted to your phone—we’re all guilty of it! It’s time to start setting boundaries with how long we allow ourselves to be online. This can look like deleting apps, setting screen time limits, journaling or making plans in-person and getting away from our phones.

Get to Know Who Your Friends Are

We’re constantly getting to know the people around us. You’d be surprised to realize that you may not know everything about even your closest friends. With fall coming up, there are so many opportunities to connect with them. Pumpkin carving, movie nights and Halloween prep are great ways to reconnect with your friends. You may also choose to take advantage of events happening on campus, such as free wine tastings at Oak House. Invite them over, ask them questions, make plans together and most importantly, be present!

Get to Know Yourself

Something that being offline will teach you, is the importance of getting to know yourself. Without the constant noise of strangers online telling you what you should and shouldn’t wear, like or do you can rediscover new things about yourself. Get in touch with your personal likes and dislikes, and start doing the things you have subconsciously procrastinated!

The simple act of seeing your friends in person, or purely spending less time online has been continuously linked to improved well-being. A lot of us probably don’t realize how much we might’ve drifted from some of our friendships due to being chronically online. This is your sign to hang up and hang out!
