On the Rhode to Becoming a "Clean Girl"

We’ve all heard the news about the newest addition to the Bieber family, as Jack Blues Bieber was welcomed into the world just last month. However, we at The Edge wouldn’t say that Hailey Bieber is a first-time mom; not to another child of course, but to TikTok’s widely coveted “clean girl” aesthetic.

For years, we have looked to iconic supermodel and businesswoman, Hailey Bieber, for all our beauty inspiration. So much so that the popular “clean girl” aesthetic transformed into becoming a “Hailey Bieber girl”, a term used to define the beige, glossy and minimalistic lifestyle. Her main mantra is purely emphasizing her beauty, resulting in an effortless look that captivates the public.

Whether we’re wanting to achieve a perfectly radiant “vanilla girl” makeup look or the model-off-duty aesthetic that the superstar so perfectly embodies, we take to gen z’s role model for advice. So, what trends has "it girl” Hailey Bieber set that we’ve all subconsciously decided to follow?

Well, for starters, a trend that saturated TikTok for a hot minute was the “glazed donut” glossy nails, which—as the name suggests—was a mix of a neutral base and holographic shimmer. We at the Edge know that these nails grazed each of our Pinterest boards and had us lined up at our nearest salons requesting “Bubble Bath” and “Funny Bunny”. But, that’s not all. You know the perfect slick-back hairstyle and dewy complexion that we all strive to achieve? We can thank Hailey Bieber for planting those trends.

As Hailey Bieber quickly became this generation’s fashion and beauty icon, the genius herself took that as her cue to generate one of the hottest new makeup brands of this generation: Rhode Beauty.

Whether it's her glossy lips, glowy skin or naturally blushed cheeks, Rhode Beauty and Hailey Bieber herself have set the stage for the essential products to achieve the “clean girl” look. Her first product launch—which included the Peptide Glazing Fluid, Barrier Restore Cream and a range of Peptide Lip Treatments—was an extreme success, selling out in 3 days and leaving 440,000 people waiting for their chance to achieve Hailey Bieber’s iconic radiance. So the products have to be good, right? Well, the results are in: these products are “truly unlike any other product,” and “the term ‘glaze’ describes [them] perfectly,” according to Marie Claire.

And it’s not just skincare and makeup products that the entrepreneur has seemed to captivate our attention with; Bieber held all our attention with the release of the Rhode Lip Case. Shortly after the release, those of us who were unsuccessful at getting our hands on one went to TikTok to dupe the viral case in an effort to match the “clean girl” queen. Videos saturated our For You pages of teen girls taping their various lip products onto their phones.

So what exactly is it about Hailey Bieber that has us all wanting to achieve this aesthetic? We may never know. But keep your eye out for the next trend, because this icon isn’t finished yet.
