It may feel like everybody around you is getting sick, and that's because during the winter, people are much more likely to catch a cold. This is why it's important to focus on your health and use some of these tips to give you the best chance of not having to spend a week sick in bed.

Wash your hands!

While most people are already taught to wash their hands at a young age, it is still important to practice as we get older. In the winter, it's recommended to start washing your hands more frequently, especially for things like eating and after shaking hands. Use soap and warm water because warm water does the best job at getting rid of germs.

No Touching!

Even though washing hands prevents getting sick, another good thing to do is refrain from touching your face, especially your mouth and eye areas. It's easier for germs to go through your mouth and eyes which makes you more prone to falling ill. If you need to touch your face, washing your hands first would be the best thing you can do to prevent getting sick.

Stay Active

Studies show that exercising and staying active help you to avoid getting sick. Working out speeds up the circulation of white blood cells, which fight illnesses like the common cold. Exercise is also proven to improve your immunity, which works to protect your body from sicknesses. A strong immune system is very important and staying active helps build that up.

Chill out!

Stress is not fun to deal with in your head, but it can also affect your body too. Feeling stressed or overwhelmed can make your body stop focusing on fighting off infections, which gives you a higher chance of catching a cold. Stress is a part of life, but too much of it can have a real impact on your body. It’s important to take care of your mental health and try your best to relax. Hot showers are a good way to feel better along with meditation and a variety of things to try.
