10 Tips for Stunning Skin
Everyone wants a clear, healthy, glowing complexion, but many people don’t realize that the habits they have are fighting against them and their hopes of obtaining such skin. There is a lot more to it than just washing your face (twice a day!) my friends. In light of this, I am here to inform you of the “more to it.” Alas, here are my 10 tips to finally achieving the skin of your dreams!
1. WATER WATER WATER! This tip is #1 for a reason (although the rest follow no order). I cannot stress enough how important it is to hydrate your skin! It is recommended that you drink half your bodyweight in ounces of water per day.
2. Use fragrance-free products. The reactions that occur on your skin from scented products are sensitizing and cause negative reactions. Even if your skin does not show signs of irritation, the damage is still being done. Fortunately (but still unfortunately) for you, your skin is just as good at hiding it.
3. Change your pillowcase every two weeks. Germs, remnants of makeup, and oils from your face and hair cover your pillowcase. None of these will put you on the path to clear skin.
4. Avoid dairy products. The list of ways such products harm skin is endless. Most of the cows that your dairy products are coming from are full of hormones that throw off balance in your skin, clog pores, cause inflammation, and lead to aging and acne. Teenagers get acne due to the increase of hormones in their bodies during puberty. Consuming hormones through your diet is just as problematic to skin as puberty hormones.
5. Clean your makeup brushes once a week. Use baby shampoo, cleansing cloths, or even make your own homemade remedy to get the job done.
6. Keep your hair out of your face. Try to pull it back in a ponytail or at least keep it tucked behind your ears. Hair has tons of oils that can lead to breakouts.
7. Wash your hands before touching your face, applying makeup, etc. Who knows what germs are on them!
8. Moisturize daily no matter what your skin type is. A common misconception is that people with oily skin shouldn't moisturize because it will only create more oil. False! Keeping your skin hydrated is an essential component to glowing skin.
9. Sanitize your phone. Whenever you make a call, your device is touching both the oils on your skin and on your hair. Additionally, when you text, hundreds of germs leave your fingertips for your phone screen. Touching your face with the same hands that have been tapping and typing away all day won’t do you any good. Wipe it down once a week to keep both your phone & your skin clean.
10. Cut back on sugar and simple carbohydrates. Foods containing high amounts of these spike your blood sugar, causing your body to produce more insulin, another negative hormone found in dairy! This excess in insulin ramps up the production of oils in your skin, and as you know by now, oil is your foe in creating clear skin.
