4 Food Joints you need to try in Alamance County
As much as I love the community that surrounds Elon University, even the hungriest of students get sick of chain restaurants and fast food. As much as I enjoy a juicy burger from Cookout every now and again, sometimes I dream of urban restaurants and cozy coffee shops that offer an escape from reality.
I took to the streets of Burlington to hunt down the most delicious, unique, hidden food joints you probably have never heard of before. From bakeries to chic tapas bars, here are my top picks.
#1: Redefinery & Co
Redefinery & Co is a tapas bar that will take you from Downtown Burlington to the Lower East Side of NYC. With its dimly lit ambiance and gourmet food selection, this is a great place to come with a group of people to sample farm fresh cheese and indulge in unique dessert options.
If you ever need an escape from campus, this is the perfect spot to enjoy locally fresh ingredients, handcrafted cocktails, and listen to live music. If you are obsessed with cheese like I am, go for the “Cheesemonger Spread” for a little bit of everything. If you are looking for something a little more substantial I recommend the BBQ & Beer Chicken Sliders — just the thought of this makes my mouth water.
#2: Little Italy
As a New York native, I have extremely high expectations when it comes to pizza. Thankfully, I came across Little Italy one afternoon after mistaking it for an Asian Bistro. This family owned restaurant has some of the best Penne Alla Vodka I have ever tried and a thin crust pizza that will leave your mouth watering. The best thing about this pizza parlor is how affordable it is. With a wide range of family-style meals and large portions, you can feed four for the price of one.
#3: Roasted Coffee Depot
Calling all coffee addicts and pastry enthusiasts! You need to try this coffee as soon as possible. Roasted is located on a quaint side street in Graham, hidden behind rustic vines and planted flowers. This local cafe was opened in 2007 and has become a coveted spot for community members. I love coming here to do homework, meet with friends or simply just sit back and enjoy the local atmosphere all while nestled in a cozy brick building. Oh, did I mention this place also serves breakfast and lunch? Yes please.
#4: Tasty’s Bakery
Saving the best for last, Tasty’s Bakery might just be heaven on earth. This family owned bakery serves up fresh pies, cookies, cakes and donuts on the daily and is known for their gluten-free options. My personal favorites are the chocolate glazed donut and red velvet cupcakes. Whether I’m eating sweets to get me through rough study sessions to simply satisfying my sweet tooth, the treats from Tasty’s have yet to disappoint. Tasty’s is located in downtown Graham, about 15 minutes from campus.
