A Mom Walk a Day Keeps The Scaries Away
Over-committed. We are all familiar with this idea as our professors continually commend us for our commitment to all different clubs and organizations throughout campus. As we commit ourselves to more and more and fill our plates, we tend to commit less to ourselves. After spending hours in class, studying and working, when do we take the time to relax and take care of ourselves? Many of us enjoy dancing away our worries at the end of a long week followed by chicken nuggets and mac n cheese, but at the end of the day I personally find that this has not satisfied the need to rewind and recuperate.
For a while, I thought I was the only one that felt so down and exhausted after a long week. I found out that a lot of my friends felt this way too and we agreed laying around watching The Kissing Booth (for like the fifth time) was not making us feel any better. In fact, I would feel even worse because I felt like I had not been productive in any way. I talked to my mom about this and she suggested I go to the gym... I laughed at this but compromised and said I would a for a walk. Some of my friends joined me on my mom walk excursion. When we got home we were in better moods and felt good about actually getting out of bed.
Now, after many walks, we have deemed mom walks the cure to just about anything. Going on these walks allows you to catch up with your friends and share fun stories while taking care of your physical and mental health. We have started to go to different trails to walk or hike every Sunday to recuperate and prepare for the upcoming week. If we go somewhere off campus for a hike we often treat ourselves to brunch.
So, next time you feel the scaries coming on or you have not taken the time to take care of yourself ask your friends to go for a mom walk and dress it up with a little brunch!
