Getting Personally Styled: A Stitch Fix Review

We are living in an era of Dominos delivery, Uber, and online shopping right to our door. In conclusion, we are in an era where it is practically encouraged to be lazy! I can admit, going into a store and trying on clothes isn’t the most appealing thing sometimes, but for some people it is extremely impractical.

Stitch Fix is marketed as ‘Your Partner in Personal Style”. The application is a personal styling service inclusive to every shape, size, and budget. So, this month I decided that i’d treat myself to some shopping as I prepare for midterms and got personally styled.

I sent in my sizes, as well as my ‘Outfit Goals’ Pinterest board to my stylist. I also checked back everyday to ‘like’ or ‘dislike’ some styles on their site. After a long and exciting week waiting, my box arrived packed with my personal picks.

The first thing I got in the box was a chunky navy sweater. I knew it was something I liked right away when I felt the material and it wasn’t thin or scratchy. The sweater is from the brand ‘Kut From The Kloth’ and is retailed for $88. I chose to style it with a neck scarf, my favorite mom jeans, and a fun pair of sneakers.

The one thing everyone with me oohed and ahhed over was this beautiful silky top from Free People. The bottom of the top and the straps are lined with small beads that add a dressy vibe you can wear to the office. I paired the top with a sleek black skirt and nude heels. This shirt retails for $68.

What I was most excited to see in this box was some rain gear. I’ve been without a rain jacket so far this semester, and after some soaked trips to and from the dining hall I realized something had to be done. This navy and white rain coat is so fun because it adds a statement to any outfit. It is from the brand ‘Joules’ and is sold for $149.95

But wait, there’s more! As an added bonus to my Joules jacket, I was styled with ankle rain boots from Keds. I love the color of these shoes, and I think they can go with any fall outfit. I paired the two together with comfortable grey leggings and was ready to take on the day (and the rain).

Probably the most surprising pick for me was this pair of light wash jeans. I always find that jeans are so hard to buy without trying on, and I struggle to find a pair that is both comfortable and flattering. With little hope, I tried them on and was pleasantly surprised. The jeans are from the brand ‘Pistola’ and sell for $88. They fit me perfectly and hugged my legs in the right places. The fringe at the bottom of the cuff was an added bonus. I wanted to accentuate the pants, so I just added a plain black top to my outfit.

My first look at getting personally styled was a huge success. I ended up only keeping the rain jacket this month, but I learned a lot about my own personal fashion favorites, and how to dress for my body. I am looking forward to seeing what next month brings in the mail (hopefully more shoes), and if you try out Stitch Fix make sure to tag us @theedgemag
