Climate Change is Real

Matthew Mitten is from Cary, NC and now only an hour away from home, this sophomore at Elon University is making an impact on his college campus and around the world.

The Edge had the opportunity to sit down and chat with Matthew about his up-and-coming clothing company, and here’s what he had to say:

Q: What is the name of your company?

M: So, basically I don’t have a name yet for the company, and I am still working on the social media and website. I do know the overall theme of the clothes are Climate Change is Real, and I think we definitely need to start addressing climate change, and I want to bring more awareness to it.

Q: When did you get this idea to start a company? How did you get the idea?

M: I’ve been playing around with starting a clothing company or a T-shirt company for a while now. One cool thing is that I saw Connie Book the other day, and I was wearing my sweatshirt, and she said that she liked it and was in support of the movement. I think the company will be a great way to start a conversation based on climate change.

Q: What will/does your company offer?

M: I have a design that I really like that says “Climate Change is Real”, and I decided to put it on some prototypes. I had a few of my friends buy a piece of clothing, and I am hoping to find a way to make it more sustainable, faster, and more cost-efficient. As for now, the company just offers a variety of colors and sizes in t-shirts, sweatshirts, and tank tops.

Q: What have been some challenges with starting this company while being an Elon student? What about some rewards?

M: It has been very challenging being a student, working two jobs on campus, and being involved with clubs all while trying to make some time for my new company. It is hard to find time to work on it, but when I do, I enjoy every moment. I would love for this company to have more designs in the future. I really love how graphic design can help spread an important message. I guess I would say the most rewarding part is seeing my friends wear the clothing because it reminds me of the support system I have here at Elon.

It was amazing to talk with Matthew about his company and how he wants to help bring awareness to climate change.

Seeing Matthew’s gear around campus makes all of us want to start our own brands and support his as well! Make sure you keep an eye out for the unique typography and fun colors around campus.
