Zac Posen Takes a Final Bow

The designs from Zac Posen’s brand, House of Z, have traveled down runways and red carpets for nearly two decades. Notable names such as Princess Eugenie, Naomi Campbell, and Katie Holmes have worn his designs. His attention to detail has given him a permanent throne amongst the influential designers of this time.

So, why is the successful brand closing?

During an extended waiting period to close a sale, the company could not find funding. The shutdown was ordered by the company’s board and presented an unfortunate surprise for Posen and his staff.

A statement released by Posen stated, “We are disappointed that these efforts have not been successful and deeply saddened that the journey of nearly 20 years has come to an end. I am grateful to the team who lent their incomparable talent and commitment along the way. I remain incredibly proud of what we created and hopeful for the future.”

This decision was upsetting for Posen, who created his label in 2001 and presented at his first fashion show that same year. Designs such the Cinderella-inspired dress that Claire Danes wore to the 2016 Met Gala are proof that the designer has come a long way. His artistry has evolved with the growing popularity of the brand, and his designs will be missed by many.

Just as saddening is the number of employees who have lost their jobs because of the shutdown. Despite efforts to salvage the label, an estimated 60 staff members have been released.

This sudden closure follows the announcement that Barneys has filed for bankruptcy and closed many of its department stores, which poses the question: what will the future of fashion be?

While the answer may be unclear, one thing is for sure. Posen’s designs will forever be staples in the fashion community.
