Dermaplaning: Women Shave Their Faces Too

What is dermaplaning?

In case you’ve never heard of it, dermaplaning is a treatment that essentially removes the top layer of dead skin cells and peach fuzz from your face. You can have it done by a professional or do it yourself with the right tools! It leaves your face hair-free and baby soft.

Why do people do this?

Whether we like it or not, we all have dead skin cells piled up on our face. Exfoliating can get rid of some, but dermaplaning takes it to a whole new level. Professionals use a scalpel to gently scrape off the top layer from your face, but thankfully it’s completely painless.

Won’t my hair grow back thicker and darker?

It is time to get rid of this myth once and for all. Dermaplaning will NOT make your hair grow back any thicker or darker than before! It takes several weeks for your peach fuzz to grow back after treatment, and it won’t be any different than before you started dermaplaning.

So what’s the point of dermaplaning?

After a dermaplaning treatment your skin is baby soft, free of peach fuzz and glowing thanks to all of your dead skin cells being removed. Your makeup goes on smoother and looks less cakey too!

Is it safe for my skin?

Professionals say it is safe for most skin types, but if you have open acne or very sensitive skin then it can cause further irritation. If you are not sure if dermaplaning is a good idea for you it is always a safe bet to ask your dermatologist first.

How do I dermaplane at home?

There are tons of different tools you can use to get baby smooth skin at home. You can find affordable options at the drugstore and by Tweezerman, but if you’re looking for the full spa treatment at home then we recommend the Dermaflash tool. It’s definitely pricey, but if dermaplaning is something you do regularly then it is worth the investment. It also makes a great gift for the holidays!

After dermaplaning your glowing skin needs some TLC. The removal of dead skin and peach fuzz leaves the skin vulnerable to dryness, so the key is to moisturize like crazy. We recommend an overnight mask to really let it seep in. It’s also a good idea to wear sunscreen for the first few days to protect you from the harsh UV-rays. Other than that, dermaplaning is a great way to get softer, glowing skin that helps your makeup glide right on.
