Elon Gets Creative
Nestled at two central locations on Elon’s campus (one downtown and one in Colonnades Neighborhood) the Maker Hub is a place where students, staff and community members can come to get creative and make new things. Offering a laser engraver, CNC Router, 3D printers, sewing machines, embroidery machines and even sticker machines, the Maker Hub has no shortage of supplies and tools. With some of the machines you do need have some background knowledge on how to use them, but it’s short and sweet. In a matter of time you have free range to create what you would like!
The Maker Hub isn’t just a place you have to go to complete class projects. Students have created stickers for their laptop, embroidered jeans and jean jackets, lasered engrave signs, created smart mirrors and more. It’s a great place to make presents for Christmas and birthdays. By using the laser engraver or 3D printers, it’s easy to create ornaments or designs that mean much more than a store bought gift (and it’s cheaper!). Everything in the Maker Hub is free of cost for students to use, so no need to worry about money here. Not to mention if your in greek life, it’s the perfect place to create big/little gifts such as stickers, signs, and embroidered shirts.
If you have free time then this is definitely something you wanna check out sooner rather than later. They also have paint and a lot of different arts and crafts materials and supplies if you’re not so big into the machines. With the stress of college the Maker Hub provides a place where students can destress and create something positive with their time. Who knows maybe you can create the next big thing or start your own clothing line!
