Get the LinkedIn Look: A Makeup Guide
As a junior in college, I’m eager to start an internship and continue to transition into the professional world. But, with that comes our friend, Linkedin. Ah, the social network that pretty much all of our parents are on, yes. Here’s my guide to creating the perfect makeup look for a kickass LinkedIn profile picture that enhances your natural beauty.
First, start with a base. Apply your favorite moisturizer and do your skin prep as usual. My current favorite moisturizer is the CeraVe unscented moisturizer. I whitened my teeth before, but that is entirely optional. The tan is courtesy of Neutrogena MicroMist’s deep tint.
Next, I spot concealed my under eyes and any problem areas that had discoloration. Quick tip -- when you’re taking pictures, always concealer around your nostrils and on top of the cupid’s bow. This will lift your face and bring attention to your smile. I set my face all over lightly with the Kat Von D translucent powder on a large fluffy brush.
Next, I lightly contoured my face with a natural bronzer 2-3 shades darker than my skin tone. This way it’s not too harsh of a contrast between my skin tone and it won’t appear muddy in photographs. I lightly applied blush to the apples of my cheeks and blended it up my cheekbone. Doing so lifts your face and will further create dimension.
I filled in my brows as usual with Benefit Gimme Brow & the e.l.f brow pomade in the shade Espresso.
I did a simple eye look with an orange-y brown shade in my crease, a light champagne color in my inner corner and my traditional liquid liner. Don’t go too heavy on the eyes. I suggest steering away from eyeliner in the water line, which can make your eyes look smaller. All eyeshadow shades are from Morphe’s James Charles Palette, which has an amazing shade range. Another pro tip is to use a light color as a highlight on the inner corner of your eyes. It lifts the eyes and makes you look more awake...what more could a college kid ask for?
I topped off my lips with a light coat of sheer gloss. Any natural “your lips but better” shade will do...I found mine at the drugstore! I finished off the look by dusting a light highlight onto my cheekbones.
At this point, you’re ready to go take a professional-grade profile pic for LinkedIn! Get a friend to go outside late afternoon or early evening. The natural lighting is warm and very flattering, without the sun being too intense.
The most important tip is to wear makeup that makes you feel your best. Good luck, and don’t forget to find me on LinkedIn!
