Layering 101

Layering is a fall essential. As the weather starts to cool down and you are trying to find a way to incorporate some summer pieces into your fall look, layering allows for you to simply upgrade pieces in your wardrobe by pairing them together. For example, throwing on a turtleneck or long sleeve underneath a baggy tee, or adding a sweater vest over any top instantly brings a fall flare to your look. Recently, knit sets have been saturating the market, especially crop top/bralette styles paired with matching cardigans. This look is seasonally perfect, looking put together and on-trend as a set, but also offering versatility. The knit bralette could be worn on its own, with boyfriend jeans and a leather jacket, and the cardigan could be thrown over any tank or tee, even with a skirt or dress on a warmer day.

To incorporate the newest trends into your everyday style without buying anything new, search your closet for basic, everyday pieces, especially in neutral colors—black, white, nude, navy or gray. If you have a neutral base, it makes it easier to layer colors on top without clashing. As the temperature drops even more, you could add more dimension to your outfit by wearing a moto or fur/shearling jacket over your turtleneck or sweater vest layered look. All you’re missing are accessories, maybe some gold necklaces or stacked bracelets, a pair of sunnies, and a bag and you’re ready to go!

Cardigan Sets

This cardigan set is a fall must-have. Popular retailers such as Zara, Princess Polly, Reformation, and Forever 21 are carrying this style. Matching sets have been trending for a while, but the collaboration of knitwear, pairing a bralette and cardigan, adds an interesting element to an otherwise boring sweater!

Turtlenecks Under Tees

This is such an easily executed layering staple. Almost any long sleeve and t-shirt pairing looks adorable! The tighter the first layer the better, so there isn’t too much static between the two pieces. Oversized tees and biker shorts are so comfortable and easy to throw on, so to transition this look into a fall-ready one, the turtleneck makes all the difference!

Sweater Vests

Light and dark academia styles are so hot right now, so this sweater vest paired with a pleated skirt fits the trend. On a warmer day, throwing the vest over a tank or tee shirt adds a bit of warmth and dimension without being too overpowering, but as the weather cools off, a sweater vest is the perfect closet staple—practical and put together!
