Ari Brochin's Golden Canvas

In the era of DIY’s, repurposing old clothing, and customizing the boring items that sit around your room, Elon University senior, Ari Brochin, has found a way to turn her passion for creativity into a business. We wanted to highlight her account @the_goldencanvas and explore the inspiration behind her favorite projects. From painting sweatpants and t-shirts, to commissioning portraits and even promoting social activism through her artwork, Ari can really do it all. We reached out to Ari to learn more about her artwork and explore the process she goes through while creating her Golden Canvases.

Ari’s slogan is to find the gold in everything she does. She takes this motto with her throughout her day and because of this optimism, her visions come to life. Her work is driven by imagination and her love for fashion and creativity. From a young age, Ari has been infatuated with fashion design and expressing herself through different outlets. Growing up, her mother was a fashion designer and her father was an artist. This artistic influence led Ari to find that passion in herself. She always enjoyed her art classes growing up, but didn’t realize her true potential as an artist until her sophomore year of high school. From this point on, she has dived into every project with excitement and innovation.

Stepping outside the box is the staple for Ari’s art. She’s constantly trying new things and looking for inspiration in her day to day both physically and mentally. Surrealist and Hyperrealist artists are where she looks for ideas when she feels stuck or in need of more inspiration. Although she supports and enjoys other artists, she tries to focus on her own vision so her work is unique and original. Her favorite projects to work on are ones that use oil painting because they allow her to paint with ease in the surrealist or hyperrealist styles. This allows her to create both realistic and creative works of art. Although oil painting is her preferred work, Ari’s art on @the_goldencanvas showcases her skills in many different mediums such as charcoal, pastels, chalk, and even the basic color pencil.

Since Ari is well versed in a multitude of artistic mediums, her artwork covers a wide range of styles, techniques, and canvases. Although she loves painting on a traditional canvas with oil paints, her love for fashion has influenced her to take scissors, thread, patches, and paint to old clothes as well. Having a well rounded love for every niche of art means she never gets bored and continues to discover passions for new projects.

Although The Golden Canvas is just a coined Instagram handle for now, Ari’s goals sail far beyond her Instagram page. Her goal for the future is to become an independent artist, fully supported by herself. She would love to one day make collections to be shown in galleries while continuing her commission based work. Since creating The Golden Canvas, she has had the opportunity to share her talent and love for art by creating special and unique pieces for each of her customers.
