TJ Maxx Review: Makeup Edition

As arguably one of the biggest off-price retailers in the US, TJ Maxx holds a special place in the hearts of people looking for a bargain on designer or quality products. One of the huge appeals to TJ Maxx is the opportunity to “hunt” for a product- you never know what you might find and each visit offers new items to look through.

One of the best categories TJ Maxx offers is their vast selection of quality, often even high-end makeup. They have brands like Nars, MILK, Becca, Morphe, Too Faced, Benefit, and other brands that are typically on the pricier side. The idea of selling marked down makeup is awesome to the consumer, but there are more issues than you may think.

Oftentimes when sorting through their makeup products, you’ll notice that a lot of the packaging has already been opened. You may find a beautiful eyeshadow palette only to take it home and find fingerprints in the pigment.

For this reason, it is super important to make sure the products you are buying are “fresh” and not yet opened. However, there’s still one more hoop to jump through when buying makeup from TJ Maxx. Sometimes, they receive products to sell so cheap because they are expired. TJ Maxx has been caught selling makeup that has expired for years. Even though the products are still sterile and unopened, the ingredients can deteriorate over time and cause extreme irritation to your skin.

Thanks to Tik Tok, there is a way to check if your makeup is expired. Canon Ryder (@Canonryder on the app) gave a step by step on how to check on your products. So, pick out what product you are interested in, locate the bar code, and usually there is a batch number next to it starting with a letter. Then go to http://m.checkcosmetic.net, enter the batch number, select the brand, and it will tell you when the product was made and when it is supposed to expire.

Even though TJ Maxx makeup has a few catches, the price is unbeatable and the products are endless-- just make sure to inspect them first.

This week I went to TJ Maxx to test out the Tik Tok hack for myself. There were a lot of products I wanted that were very expired which was disappointing, but I still came home with Milk, Becca, and Benefit products that I love. So if you are looking to save a few bucks and haven't checked out TJ Maxx yet, give it a try! You never know what hidden treasures you’ill find.

Happy Shopping!
