A Tour of the Best Winter Wonderlands Across the United States

We all know it’s extremely important to take precautions while traveling, such as COVID testing and mask-wearing. But, if you’re looking to expand your horizons this holiday season, there are safe options for traveling domestically. Many airlines and airports have begun offering on-site rapid tests in their best efforts to decrease transmission and limit the overwhelming stress that accompanies traveling during these bizarre times. A good old-fashioned road trip is also a way to be cautious and still do some sight-seeing.

We’ve put together this list of places that will be literally and figuratively beaming this holiday season. Mask up, get tested, and follow destination protocols so you can get a peek at these winter wonderlands.

Asheville, North Carolina

We know, Asheville comes up on almost every recommended travel list, but there’s good reason for that. Situated right in the Blue Ridge mountains, this city offers everything from dreamy lights at the North Carolina Arboretum to mountain peaks with picturesque views. Unfortunately, this year the infamous trolly tour through downtown and the Biltmore Village isn’t being offered, but the city will still radiate Christmas spirit. Asheville is also built on the largest white quartz crystal in the state. One of white quartz’s most valuable benefits is improving your connection with your inner self, subtly helping visitors realign with their authenticity. Amidst these tough times, we could all use a little realigning.

Bethlehem, Pennsylvania

Home to Christkindlmarkt, regarded as one of the best Christmas markets in the States, Bethlehem is a must-visit spot around the holiday season. This one-of-a-kind event offers handmade items from some of the most talented artisans around. Live Christmas music is sure to be heard traversing the sparkling streets. Last year, the event adopted the addition of igloos in the Outdoor Village, which are perfectly conducive to sticking with, and only with, your intended group. If you’re lucky, you may even catch brilliant craftsmen demonstrating the art of glassblowing.

North Pole, Alaska

This seems to go without saying, but this whimsical Alaskan town screams Christmas. The “official” home of St. Nick is rightfully situated here and welcomes all those with true Christmas spirit with open arms. Inside, there’s something for everyone (and for all ages from children to elders). From Christmas decor and ornaments to some of the sweetest treats and most exclusive North Pole apparel, visitors are guaranteed to leave with a smile on their faces. Incredible murals can be found all throughout the premise, and the Christmas trees saturated with pearly white snow most definitely makes you feel like you’re in a fairytale.

Nashville, Tennessee

The self-proclaimed tallest Christmas tree in the South is a strong 100-foot tree that attracts thousands of visitors each year. Nashville offers a surplus of activities to get everyone in the mood for Christmas carols and hot apple cider. A trip to the Opryland Hotel and Resort will make for a mystical experience where you can decorate gingerbread houses or take an enchanted carriage ride under the mistletoe. Numerous light festivals are spread across the city with luminaries of love.

Park City, Utah

Park City has an abundance of activities on the slopes like skiing, fly fishing, snowmobiling, dog sledding, and snow tubing. If you’re not one for the slopes, the aprés-ski options have you covered. World renowned resorts are anything but limited here, all with incredible views. Imagine sitting by a warm fire, sipping a glass of fine wine, and eating rich, creamy fondue. What could be better, right? Park City also hosts the one and only Snowfest, running from December 20 to January 5. Live music, ugly sweater parties, and fireworks are all you could ever want!

These are just a few of the charming places throughout the United States that truly make you feel like you’re in a winter wonderland. Each little wonderland has something unique to offer with traditions that run strong.
