Help Yourself Out This Lent Season

It’s the start of Lent, and for those who practice, this usually means giving certain luxuries up to serve as somewhat of a sacrifice. It can be hard to decide what you can give up that will truly benefit your life as the practice suggests.

If you’re struggling in the same area, We’ve created a list of ideas that can be beneficial for your spirituality and health. Some take more dedication than others, so if you feel inclined, choose one that suits your lifestyle best!

1. Meat: This one may be a little tough, but it’s worth a try!  If you’re on the fence, documentaries like Food, Inc., Carnage, The Game Changers, and Cowspiracy will help you make your mind up!

2. Self-tanning: We all love a little bit of color, but give your skin a break and embrace your natural tone.

3. Self-doubt: Believe in yourself and stop questioning everything! Try starting a gratitude journal to hold yourself accountable for this one.

4. Instagram filters: Stop obsessing over false ideas of perfection, and let the world see your natural beauty!

5. Using your phone late at night: Give your mind a rest by turning your phone off for a few hours before bed! That mindless scrolling isn’t doing you any good anyway.

6. Gossiping: Focus on yourself, and try not to involve yourself in other people’s lives.

7. Soda: This is a classic one, but if your diet consists of soda, try to make that switch to water! If you’re still craving carbonation, go for sparkling water instead.

8. Sleeping in: Start your days early for the next 40. You’ll be shocked at how much more productive you’ll be each day!

9. Social media: This one could seriously change your life. It’s a tough one and takes some serious dedication, but you’ll feel so refreshed after.

10. Summer-body ideals: This is the time of the year that people start obsessing over getting “summer-body ready.” Oh, please! If you’re confident in your own skin the way you are, then what needs changing?

11. Coffee: Kick that caffeine addiction. Try healthier alternatives like tea!

12. Leaving your makeup on while you sleep: This can be hard after a long night out, but your skin will thank you if you commit!

13. Skipping class: It’s so easy to blow off class, especially with warmer weather coming. Save those skips for when you’re actually sick.
