Make More of Sundays at Elon
We’ve all fallen victim to getting stuck in the same routine week after week. This kind of lifestyle slump isn’t always encouraging and can get you stuck in a cycle of procrastination. One of the best ways to break this negative cycle is to do something different from your normal routine.
Last spring, I took the nature awareness Core Capstone class, which was taught entirely outside in the forest near Elon’s Loy Farm. Being outside every day allowed this tight-knit group of students to each day remove themselves from their monotonous Elon routines and reconnect with their happiness.
Many people in the class often shared stories of hikes they had done on weekends. Although many of us grew up hiking, when’s the last time you got out onto a trail? What better way to literally burst out of the Elon bubble than to venture somewhere new?
Going on a Sunday hike will clear your mind of the stress that the previous week held and set you up to break out of unhealthy routines for the upcoming week. So without further ado, here are the best local hiking trails:
Shallow Ford
Basin Creek and Homestead Loop Trails
Hanging Rock
Riverwalk
Chinqua-Penn Walking Trail
Eno River State Park
Jordan Lake State Hiking Trails
Nat Greene Trail, Atlantic & Yadkin Greenway
Next time you find yourself with some spare time on your hands, check out one of these places. Nature has so much to offer. Happy trails!
