How Beauty Companies are Helping the Medical Community
Over the last few weeks, non-essential businesses have been forced to temporarily close their doors to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. For a lot of businesses, this is devastating—a lack of income may lead to smaller businesses going bankrupt.
However, some have decided that sitting around waiting for this pandemic to end is not enough. Despite closures, many companies have decided to use their resources to contribute to the fight against coronavirus.
All across the nation, nail salons, spa providers and cosmetic surgeons have been donating their own inventories of protective masks and gloves to health facilities across the country. Hospitals are accepting donations as well. A new hashtag has even come out of this time of helping, #allhandsondeck, which encourages people to do what they can to help, no matter how small.
Cosmetic dermatologist Dr. Simon Ourian, founder of medical spa Epione in Beverly Hills (perhaps best known as the Kardashian family’s consultant of choice), closed all of his offices as soon as California's governor issued a shelter-in-place order.
In the meantime, Ourian has been looking for ways to assist emergency workers. He decided to reach out to his suppliers and was able to locate 10,000 masks, which he then donated to UCLA, where he completed his residency, and Cedars Sinai, where his mother had been receiving non-COVID-19-related treatment for the past six months.
On a larger scale, XpresSpa, the chain of airport spas offering pre-flight massages and nail and waxing services at 23 U.S. airports, is considering converting kiosks into coronavirus testing locations in partnership with Relevant Healthcare Cost Containment. All testing will be done by appropriately licensed health professionals in accordance with applicable federal and state laws.
It’s important now more than ever that everyone is more accepting and generous than ever before. If you have the ability to give, then give, no matter how much or how little. Acts of kindness like these show that we get through this by working together... at a safe distance apart, of course!
