All You Need to Know About the Tie-Dye Trend

While trendy designer tie-dye loungewear can be pricey, many TikTok and Instagram influencers are showing off their home-made tie-dye sets. To pass the quarantine time, try DIY-ing pieces in your closet that might need a makeover, or take some cost-friendly set from Walmart or Amazon to the next level.

Tie-dye became a big hit in the 60s, but it’s been around for a long time. Though the bright patterns might not be your style, this activity is a great way to repurpose old pieces and to pass the time.

TikTok users are providing a ton of tutorials with different techniques and supplies to achieve a picture-worthy set that will leave you feeling cozy and styling while at home. Lindy Goodson provided her followers with a video of the cutest sets for just under $20!

That’s right. You can turn any clothing item into your own unique and original piece for little to no cost.

I decided to try it out myself to see what the hype was all about. I got a comfy turquoise crew neck from Walmart for roughly $10, a pack of rubber bands and bleach.

To achieve this look, I swirled the crew neck tight and placed rubber bands around the circle. I splashed the bleach onto the crew neck until I thought it was the perfect amount. There you go! You just got a brand new on-trend sweatshirt. PSA: You will get so many compliments.

Tie-dye is not going out of style anytime soon. Grab an old sweatshirt, shirt, sweatpants or even socks, and tag @theedgemag to show off your colorful piece to be featured!
