The Not So Boring Board Games

We have all been searching for anything to occupy our time during this quarantine. Hearing our parents yell the dreaded words “let’s play a board game” always seems to haunt us and bring back competitive or boring memories from our childhood. We have decided to rack-up some of our favorite board and card games you can play with your family and friends during this strange time.

It’s always super hard to agree on a game every member of the family is willing to play, and most of the time, especially at the college age, our attention span only lasts about 10 minutes and then we want to get back to Instagram or Snapchat. We are all guilty of not being engaged in family time, but hopefully these games can change that (or at least take you from playing from only 10 minutes to 30 minutes).

Rummikub:

Rummikub is a tile game for up to 4 people that meshes characteristics of Rummy and Mahjong. Players start with 14 tiles and the main goal is to get rid of all your own tiles in sets of three or more. This game is truly addictive and you can play with your youngest sibling or oldest grandparent (it’s very easy to pick up).

Cards Against Humanity:

Contrary to playing games with your grandparents or little siblings, this game is definitely better for friends. The company refers to themselves as “a party game for horrible people.” It’s very raunchy but very fun.

Boggle:

This is a perfect game for people who are quick thinkers! All you have to do is make short words with letters that connect. For example, the letters s, t, a, r, and t can make the words, star, start, at, sat, tar, stat, rat, rats, and probably a few more!

Swish:

In this super fast paced card game, “swishes” are made by stacking 2-12 cards on top of each other so that every ball “swishes” into a hoop of the same color. Whoever has the most matches by the end, wins the game. But, WARNING… don’t play this with competitive people. Voices may get raised.

Although games are not always the most exciting thing, hopefully these few can help change your perspective.
