Ditch Your High School Wardrobe And Find Your Own Personal Style

For any incoming freshmen reading this: This is your sign. Upgrade your high school wardrobe. When packing for college, ditch the leggings and oversized hoodies and find a style that actually speaks to you.

In high school, it’s easy to conform to those around you; what they’re saying, what they’re eating, what they’re wearing. But college is certainly no time to be anyone but yourself. Walk around any college campus and you can see that almost immediately, everyone is joining their own clubs, choosing their own classes and wearing absolutely whatever the hell they want.

As cliche as it may sound, college truly is a time to find yourself. It’s that little gap of time before you’re sent out into the real world to do real-world things. One of the first steps to having the confidence to get that interview and land that dream job after college is to start feeling confident now, and that includes how you use your wardrobe to express yourself.

While here are endless different ways to achieve this, we’re going to share some of the most popular styles seen on campus in the past two years. But, don’t just choose one. Feel free to experiment with all of them to see what you’re most comfortable in.

Athleisure

The perfect blend of cute, sporty and comfy. It seems like every company is coming out with athletic clothes now (Check out FP Movement and Princess Polly’s Sportif). Pair your athletic clothes with a chunky sneaker and you’re good to go. Added bonus: If you actually enjoy working out, you can go to the gym straight from class!

Grunge-casual

This look might not totally qualify as grunge, but it’s definitely the most casual yet trendy category of clothes you’ll see around campus. This is your chance to show off any really cool pants or shirts that you were too nervous to wear in front of your high school friends. Pair this outfit with absolutely ANY pair of shoes. This kind of look is so versatile and fun, perfect for experimenting with different pieces. With all of the options, it’s hard not to pull this look off, so give it a try.

Girly

This is perfect for a hot, sticky day when you could imagine wearing anything heavier than a mini dress. And some people definitely do wear dresses and skirts everyday, even in the dead of winter. Show off your tan summer legs, or pair your dress with tights or high boots when it gets cooler.

Just Woke Up

A true ~college classic~. No matter the time of day or day of the week, you’ll always see people sporting sweatpants and big shirts. While this is obviously comfy, you can definitely make it cute.

Now, these are just a few of our favorite styles we seen being rocked on campus right now. But don’t feel constricted to just one. Our best advice is to experiment, and don’t forget to show us your personal style by tagging @theedgemag on Instagram!
