College Apartment Inspiration
This is the first year that many of us are living off campus and away from home. The transition to a new college dorm or your first apartment can be challenging, but when your home is comfortable and relaxing, your mind might just be put at ease.
Decorating is the best ongoing project because it allows you to express yourself while filling your pockets of free time with stress-free fun! Here are a few bits and pieces of my college living space, although it’s still a work in progress.
Collage Wall
Do you have lots of time on your hands and need something to keep busy? Then creating a collage wall is for you. Find open wall space in your room and a trend that inspires you. For mine, I chose a trendy boho-beachy vibe and took to Pinterest to compile photos. It was super easy to print the photos and create a layout that ties my room together (and has room to grow!).
Plants and accent mirrors
A little green in your life is always great! Having plants in your room can be a great way to keep your mind and body healthy, according to studies on the benefits of house plants. Some benefits include decreasing stress levels, increasing performance and bettering the air quality of the space. These two plants are from Target and HomeGoods. (If you are looking real plants, we suggest shopping at Trader Joes for all of your succulent needs.) The mirror pictured is from West Elm and anchors the decor on this wall space, tying into the gold accent theme throughout my room.
Bookshelf
If you need more storage and room to fill, invest in a cheap bookshelf, such as this white one from Target. I added gold accessories on the top, which are from HomeGoods, to follow the gold theme of my room and spice up this simplistic corner just a little.
Artwork
A large statement piece in your living room is always a must-have, especially when it’s placed above the main couch. This painting from Bed Bath & Beyond was the perfect piece to tie together the space. On our other couch, there are darker blue pillows to match the tone of the painting, as well as more gold accessories throughout the living room.
Candy and candles
In the corner of our living, theres’s a modern 4-piece shelf from Target that allows for storage or a plant or two! Placed on top are a few candles that we light throughout the day to keep our living room smelling fresh. And, most importantly, here’s a huge jar of candy for any family, friends and guests. It is the best part of the living room.
Coffee table
Coffee tables are more than just a place to put random items on and kick up your feet on. It serves as the centerpiece of the living room. We decorated this table by placing gold and white coasters across the table as well as a plant, all of which are from Target. The best part of the living room table is, of course, a copy of The Edge spring issue.
