Small Business Spotlight: All That Jas

As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to affect our lives, many small businesses have struggled to stay afloat during the economic downturn. Unfortunately, All That Jas, a boutique located on the campus of Elon University is no different.

Jas made the difficult decision to temporarily close its doors, and as a result, lost prior group orders, a major source of income for the business. They transitioned to online orders only during the six months that the store was closed but continued to worry about the fate of the shop.

All That Jas finally reopened on August 14 as students began to return to campus. “We need their support now, this semester, more than ever,” said Michelle Graybeal, the store’s owner. “We were really set back by the six months [that] decreased business.”

Although the business is still trying to recover, the hardship did expose some of the company’s strengths. The employees realized that they were going to need a little more patience and flexibility to survive the pandemic, and so creativity set in. In an effort to stay on-trend, Michelle created several tie-dye sets, such as the bleached black Elon sweat set shown below.

Michelle wants to remind Elon students that Jas is “more than a sorority store.” In addition to selling greek merchandise, they can stock Elon products for students who want to show their school spirit in a trendy way. Jas also carries accessories, customizable blank items, tie-dye sets and other great gift ideas.

She encourages students to stop by and see what the store has to offer. In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Jas has made changes around the store. They have moved the displays that used to be in the center of the store to allow for social distancing. They also wipe down card machines and other surfaces after each customer and supply hand sanitizer for everyone’s protection.
