I Drank A Gallon Of Water Every Day For A Week To See What Would Happen
Every time I look into how to live a healthier lifestyle, everything I find says to drink more water, specifically a gallon a day. From actual health professionals to TikTok fitness gurus (hello, Lexi Hidalgo), so many say that this is the key to a lifestyle change. According to an article from Healthline, a gallon of water a day boasts improvement in your skin, bloat, energy and weight. So I went for it, and here’s what I found out.
Four 32-ounce Hydroflask water bottles a day doesn’t sound too bad on paper. But, I quickly learned that setting reminders on my phone to was absolutely necessary to complete the task,.
I felt more energized.
I not only started waking up earlier, but I wasn’t as tired throughout the day. My body was definitely happy to be properly hydrated, and I could actually feel the difference change throughout the week as my body got used to this new, healthier normal.
I peed, a lot.
I was definitely expecting this change, but it still shocked me how much I had to use the bathroom, so much so that I documented it to my Snapchat memories.
My skin didn’t get worse, but it didn’t necessarily get better.
I don’t really have dry skin to begin with, so maybe that’s why I didn’t see a major change. I still had my normal hormonal acne, but I wasn’t expecting water to get rid of that. However, I noticed the skin around my nose where I typically suffer from dryer skin started to look better toward the end of the week.
I was less bloated.
This was probably what I noticed the most. It was almost as if that “morning skinny” look stayed with me throughout the day, even after I ate food. According to Everyday Health, this is because water helps you properly digest your food in a more timely fashion.
I snacked less.
Before this, I never would have considered water to be filling, but I genuinely found myself less hungry and less eager to snack throughout the day.
I didn’t lose weight, but I felt a lot better about myself.
While I wasn’t expecting water to magically take weight off my body, I felt so much more confident this past week. Maybe it was from the lack of bloating, or maybe it was because I wasn’t as exhausted as usual, but either way, it was great.
This week-long experiment has definitely made me want to stick with the water-drinking, because regardless of the results, our bodies love and need water, so why not give them more?!
