How to Achieve the Baggy Jean Look for Cheap
The evolution of jeans is always a fascinating phenomenon in the fashion industry. They will never go out of style. Over the years, the way we wear and style jeans has drastically changed. Your grandma probably rocked flare jeans like Cher. Your mom most definitely pulled off a pair of overalls like Rachel Green. And your older sister’s jeggings are probably still tucked in the back of her closet.
Our generation, however, has not seemed to stick with one style of denim. You could argue that skinny jeans will always be a closet classic, but even their time in the spotlight has come to a halt. Since the 2010s, we’ve borrowed styles from past generations; We’ve seen a comeback in overalls, mom jeans, bell-bottoms and even low-rise jeans (who would’ve thought?!). The point is: jeans are always evolving and recycling.
As always, there’s a new-ish style of jeans clouding my timeline: baggy jeans. Not sure what trendy name we’re calling these (dad jeans? worker jeans? borderline pajama pants… jeans?), but regardless they are definitely making waves across social media. Like any other trend, stores will most likely come out with styles they know Gen Z-ers are ready to purchase, and they won’t be cheap. Here are three ways to achieve the baggy jeans look without breaking the bank.
Walmart
I bet you didn’t know your local Walmart would come in handy for fashion trends. Similar to Target or Amazon, Walmart is the perfect place for trendy dupes. But you’re going to have to work a little harder to achieve this trend. Head over to the men’s section and look for the George men’s regular fit jean. It comes in three colors: black, medium wash and light wash. Feel free to choose whichever, but if you want to be on-trend, the light wash is the way to go. Find them here.
Thrifting
If you’re looking for a more ethical option, thrifting is almost always the cheapest sustainable option. It can either be a local thrift store or your neighborhood Goodwill. Again, the men’s section will always be your best bet if you want to master that baggy look. It doesn’t matter the brand, but if you are lucky enough to find a vintage pair of Levi’s, grab them. No matter the size, just grab the Levi’s.
Your Own House
If you have a dad, brother, uncle or third cousin who will hand you down a pair of their pants, this will be the cheapest option. But make sure you ask for the jeans first. Here at The Edge, we will not be held accountable for any theft that goes on in the home.
We know… With all of these men’s options for jeans, there is bound to be some tailoring in the waist and maybe even the length. Linked below are two videos that show you how to tailor jeans to your liking.
