Our Favorite TV Character Fashion Icons
Whether you want to admit it or not, television shows can have a huge impact on our lives. This especially applies to fashion. While we could go on and on about the many fashion icons we see in our favorite series’, for now we’ll stick to these five ladies who changed the fashion game on TV.
Carrie Bradshaw
We have to start out with the queen of fashion, Ms. Carrie Bradshaw, portrayed by the oh-so-stylish Sarah Jessica Parker. Sex and the City was revolutionary in the early 2000s. It was progressive, although some of it hasn’t aged well, in that it showed women being successful and upfront about their personal lives. However, the most iconic part of the show was arguably Carrie’s fashion. Her outfits were daring while staying chic and girly.
Olivia Pope
A more underrated stylish TV character is Olivia Pope, portrayed by Kerry Washington. I’m sure you wouldn’t look to a show about the goings-on of the White House for fashion, but Ms. Pope delivered in EVERY episode. Never one to shy away from a bold cape or a power suit, Olivia Pope’s fashion was the pinnacle of Scandal and was better than any relationship on the show. The costume designer, Lyn Paolo, tailored her outfits to what was happening during the show at that time.
Blair Waldorf
Still keeping on track with our ladies of New York, let’s move to the Upper Eastside where Blair Waldorf, portrayed by Leighton Meester, rules the game. Gossip Girl gave viewers a glance into the lives of privileged teens living in the Upper Eastside of Manhattan. This created an opportunity for great fashion, but one character stood out amongst the rest. Blair’s preppy, sophisticated style was envied by many and was a reason why many stay attached to the show.
Rachel Green
The original 90s fashionista Rachel Green, portrayed by Jennifer Aniston, was a trailblazer when it came to fashionable TV characters. Friends is an iconic show in and of itself, but Rachel’s style was even more iconic. From her quintessential haircut to her desirable wardrobe, every girl in the 90s, and even today, wanted to dress like Rachel Green. It’s no wonder the show ended up making her character pursue a career in fashion, working at Ralph Lauren and offered a job at Louis Vuitton in Paris (no thanks to Ross).
Zoey Johnson
The youngest character on the list, Zoey Johnson, portrayed by Yara Shahidi, has the most editorial look amongst the rest. Her looks on Black-ish, and eventually Grown-ish, were the most integral part of her storylines leading her to study of fashion in college. And it’s no doubt that she will rock the fashion world.
