11 Black-Owned Beauty Brands to Support Now... and Always
With everything going on in the world right now, new beauty products might not be high on anyone’s priority list. However, one amazing way to help the Black Lives Matter movement is to put money back into the pockets of black men and women who still have to deal with being overshadowed by big shot, predominantly white companies daily.
Until now, I never thought about what brands I was supporting and why. These brands deserve just as much hype as any other beauty brand—if not more—due to their diverse founders and inclusive products. So, if you’re looking to treat yourself to a new foundation, eyeshadow palette, haircare product or anything in between, check out these 11 brands.
Pat McGrath Labs
Pat McGrath Labs has made a name for themselves in the makeup industry with their to-die-for eyeshadow palettes. YouTuber Tati Westbrook even wore the shadows on her wedding day—that’s how good they are. The Bronze Seduction palette (or any of the other palettes) is at the top of our wishlist.
The Lip Bar
If you’re a Shark Tank fan, or if you’ve visited Target recently, you might recognize this name. Founder Melissa Butler was featured on the infamous TV show back in 2015 and got laughed off the stage for her vegan lipsticks. Her story of how she got her products from there to Target is insanely inspiring, and her lipsticks are worth the hype (and the low price).
Beauty Bakerie
If this name looks familiar to you, it’s probably because you heard of their scandal with the high-end brand Huda Beauty, when Huda ripped off the brand’s makeup baking campaign with their line Huda Easy Bake. But Beauty Bakerie stands out all on its own, with its adorable packaging, insane shade range and killer prices. Plus, it’s available at Ulta!
Hyper Skin
In need of a new Vitamin C serum? Look no further. I ordered this product during quarantine, and let me tell you… It’s good. And I’m not the only one who thinks so; one look at the reviews and you’ll be sold too. Find it on their website or at Urban Outfitters.
Iman Cosmetics
Supermodel Iman Abdulmajid created her brand Iman Cosmetics specifically to add more diversity to foundation shades, as she was used to having to bring her own foundation with her to shoots. Not only did she achieve her goal, but the company is 100% women and 85% black.
Fenty Beauty
Rihanna’s makeup brand needs no introduction, but it wouldn’t feel right not having it on this list. From her shade range to the GlossBomb lip gloss that looks good on literally everyone, RiRi has been inclusive since day one without slipping on quality.
Mented Cosmetics
Mented’s semi-matte lipsticks have over 1,500 5-star reviews and boast a nude shade for every skin tone. Plus, Mented is completely cruelty free AND vegan. How can it get any better than that?!
Briogeo
You’ve probably seen this brand on the shelves of Sephora’s haircare section. These all-natural haircare products fight off frizz, help define curls and help your damaged hair (just to name a few pros).
Uoma Beauty
Another brand found at Ulta! Uoma’s claim to beauty fame was launching 51 foundation shades (yes, you read that right), in six different formulas. Along with their foundations, their lipsticks have insane reviews at an amazing price.
Pattern
Made for girls with curly and textured hair, Pattern offers an assortment of haircare products at great prices. You also might know its founder, Tracee Ellis Ross, who stars on the hit TV show Black-ish.
Juvia’s Place
Inspired by the colors of Africa, Juvia’s Place offers eyeshadow palettes with bright shades perfect for every occasion and every skin tone.
