The Sex and the City Effect

With the reboot of Sex and the City coming out in just two short months, it’s time to take a closer look at the impact this iconic show has had on the fashion world!

One of the first things you think of when you hear the words “Sex and the City” is Carrie in the streets of New York City with her icon pink ballerina tulle tutu! This style inspired many fashion trends both during and after the HBO hit was on air and is still seen in trends to this day. One of the most notable appearances of tulle skirts was in Maria Grazia Chiuris's debut collection as Dior's first female creative director, where she filled the runway with tulle skirts of all shapes, sizes, colors, and patterns. Carrie Bradshaw is and always will be a style icon whether in a tutu, little black dress, or shirt a men's button-up shirt and belt!

Although she won't be returning to the show, Samantha Jones’  iconic looks will never be forgotten! Among the many unforgettable things about Samantha is her ability to pull off a power suit! Now more than ever we see power suits popping up everywhere, with modern twists to the classic look. Nowadays, there are a plethora of power suits ranging from cropped blazers to cropped pants, to shorts instead of the usual long pants. Whatever your preference there is a power suit for you to channel your inner Samantha Jones in (check out our article The Power of the Pantsuit for more inspo)!

Miranda's style, which might not have been the most influential in fashion back in the 90s, would certainly be considered a trendsetter nowadays. She is an icon in minimalist fashion and was ahead of her time as she was often seen sporting more traditional male categorized clothes. Miranda is the perfect example of how minimalism does not mean boring! Along with being a minimalism perfectionist, throughout the show, she is seen sporting modern trends ranging from puffer jackets to all things oversized! Hopefully, with the reboot people will come to see just how much of a fashion icon Miranda Hobbes is!

Charlotte York may have been considered the traditional style of all the girls, but traditional doesn’t mean she is any less of an icon, especially when tradition is done as well as Charlotte does it! From Burberry trench coats, which are always a fashion must-have to headbands (Blair Waldorf was definitely taking notes) to more modern trends like corsets dresses, she has always served looks! Charlotte was an embodiment of classical styles and classics, just like her, never go out of style!
