The Wonders of Waxing
This week I finally faced my fears and did something that almost every woman dreads. I got a Brazilian wax. Yep. The whole thing. With all the horror stories I’d heard from other ladies who’d laid on the table, I think you could say I was pretty nervous. I made the mistake of reading every article about waxing on the morning of my appointment and I began to wonder what the hell I was getting myself into. But, after much encouragement from my friends and mom, I decided to embrace my Sex and the City moment and walk-in full force.
I was careful to follow all the do’s and don'ts the day of my appointment, like avoiding caffeine and drinking plenty of water. An hour before my appointment I took an ibuprofen to hopefully lower the amount of pain I knew I’d be experiencing. I hit the Chick-fil-a drive-thru on my way to the wax center and promised myself an iced vanilla latte after my appointment.
After I worked up enough courage to walk into the center, I checked in and was shown to the room where my Brazillian would be happening. My waxer, Candice, who is also my new hype woman, welcomed me with open arms and assured me that I could make it through the process. So, I stripped from the waist down and got on the table. After this, my only job was to spread my legs and breathe. Candice talked me through each step of the process and let me know when to take a deep breath and quickly breathe out. She was also amazing at distracting me from all the wax that was being spread onto me, by letting me spill all the gossip I’d been thinking about the past few days. It was like a little therapy sesh, with a wax included!
Now, there’s probably one big question on your mind: Did it hurt? My answer is yes. It hurt. Really bad. But it wasn’t unbearable. The actual removal of the wax didn’t hurt nearly as much as I expected it to. It was more the aftermath of my hair being torn out of its follicle. And still, this stinging pain only lasted for maybe three seconds at most. Trust me, the pain is quick and one thousand percent worth it when you realize how smooth you’re about to be.
I trusted the European Wax Center to take my Brazilian wax virginity, and I couldn’t be happier with the experience. Their center was clean and comfortable, and their employees were welcoming to every client who walked through the door. EWC uses a hard wax that ensures it won’t tug at your skin, making the waxing process a little less painful. They’re also known as some of the quickest waxers in the business, as I was in and out in just around twenty minutes.
If you’re thinking about trying waxing down there, it’s truly not as bad as the movies make it seem. You’ll walk out feeling smooth and supposedly will continue to feel smooth for weeks to come. That’s a detail I’ll have to update you on later. Or maybe you should just go find out for yourself. Go get waxed. Seriously.
