Quality Over Quantity
“Quality over quantity” I’m sure you’ve heard it before, whether it relates to relationships, food, books, exercise - anything. But, how does it relate to fashion?
Quality over quantity is something I’ve learned this past year when it comes to fashion. During quarantine, I spent a lot of time rummaging through my closet. My dresser drawers were busting open, clothes were swallowing my hangers and my jewelry box was spilling out. It was that moment when I realized I needed a fashion cleanse.
After reorganizing everything, I realized that I had an abundance of similar clothes. I had a stupid amount of black crop tops, way too many jeans and an over abundance of bodysuits. All while noticing this, I also realized that a lot of my clothes were pretty cheap material and had been worn to their last legs. The quality of fashion pieces, whether they’re clothes or accessories, is so important because it allows for a longer closet life.
Now, instead of shopping for clothes, I shop for outfits. Which, is my #1 personal tip! Every time you’re shopping, make sure you know what you’re shopping for. Don’t buy a shirt unless you know what pants will work with it. These 5 tips below helped me to shop smarter.
5 TIPS FOR QUALITY OVER QUANTITY FASHION:
Buy Basics
Layering can be so easy when you have the pieces for it. Basic bodysuits, crop tops and shirts are staple pieces that you not only can wear all of the time, but that you can have forever if you buy the right ones! Check out Aritzia for a wide selection of very well made basic tops. .
2. One Good Pair of Jeans
Realistically, a pair of jeans that fits you well and is made with good denim can last you a long time. I found myself buying so many pairs of jeans that I would’ve been better off splurging on one good pair. Brands like Mother, Citizens of Humanity, and Agolde have plenty of options to choose from and have extraordinary reviews.
3. Non Tarnishable Jewelry
Similar to jeans, buying countless pieces of cheaply made jewelry can add up. Whether the gems fall out or the gold turns green, cheap jewelry is simply not worth it. There are countless great jewelry brands to choose from, all ranging from different prices. What’s important to remember is to buy what you’ll wear! With that said, try to look out for simplistic jewelry pieces that can go with more outfits. Some of our favorite places to look at are Gorjana, Mejuri, and M Jewelers.
Next time you’re out shopping or in your room cleaning out your closet, make sure you’re thinking about quality over quantity.
