Vitamins and Supplements for Energy— Worth the Hype?
Vitamins and supplements are far from a new concept. Odds are, you’ve seen the stacks of A-Z vitamins at your local drugstore, and wide selections of herb-based supplements at Whole Foods, but never stopped to find what might actually benefit you. I can admit that I have never stopped to consider adding supplements outside of my regular multivitamin routine, as the vast sea of vitamins can be daunting, without a clear starting point.
However, with Covid lethargy and seasonal demotivation at an all-time high for most, any healthy source of energy sounds absolutely delightful. To me, vitamins are the epitome of self-care. The routine in itself of knowingly feeding your body extra nutrients and minerals can alone, give you an extra pep in your step. We’ve condensed a list of the most popular and most proven supplements for energy, but as a good rule of thumb, be sure to check with your doctor before choosing a supplement.
Vitamin B12
Any B-vitamin is what converts your food to energy more efficiently. It recharges your body’s cells, and allows for your body to make food into energy much more easily and quickly.
CoQ10
AKA coenzyme Q10, this supplement works as an antioxidant found in meat, fish, and whole grains. CoQ1o is naturally created in our bodies, but if you are low on it, you may experience excess fatigue.
Vitamin D
Lack of vitamin D is directly linked to muscle fatigue, and most people have a deficiency, so everyone should be stocking up on D!
Iron
Another common deficiency, low iron can result in fatigue, and that head-rush feeling when you move too quickly. Iron supplements can get you moving efficiently without brain fuzz!
L-Theanine
If you are someone often in need of an afternoon pick-me-up, L-Theanine is definitely something you should get your hands on! It is an instant energy boost. And taking this supplement with a cup of coffee is ideal, as the L-theanine helps the body process caffeine without the annoying side-effects like restlessness.
