From Spoons to Rings, All Made By Wade

Haley Wade ditched those lazy quarantine days and put her creative mind to work by establishing her trendy ring business, Made by Wade. The 20-year-old Monmouth University student put her boredom to bed when she thought of the idea to create an antique spoon ring business. While spending time at her grandmother’s house over the years, she noticed the surplus of antique spoons that filled the drawers. Haley then thought of the genius idea to bend those antique spoons’ stems into fashionable rings.

After a month of researching and watching tutorials, Haley knew this was something she wanted to pursue. She saved up and eventually bought a set of tools which consisted of a ring bender, metal file, bolt cutter, hammer, ring mandrel, and of course silver polish. Her grandmother gave her the antique spoons that sparked the inspiration, and Haley added more spoons to her collection by visiting local antique stores in her New Jersey hometown.

Once she hired a graphic designer to create a logo for her business, she then created an Instagram page for Made by Wade. The entrepreneur was now officially in business. Haley gave us the inside scoop of how she runs Made by Wade. “I post the stem of the antique spoons on the Instagram page and people are able to comment on which one they want,” she told us. “I run it as a first-come first-served basis, which has been working really well, and then I message the first comment asking for their ring sizes and address.” Haley manages all of her orders by using an Excel sheet that lists the details of the order and her own personal profit. What started as a few rings a week sold to some close friends, blew up to rings selling out minutes after they were posted.

The antique spoons have a wide variety of designs from floral patterns, to locations and animals, to monogrammed initials. The spoons come in either sterling silver or sterling plate. Prices depend on the quality of the metal and how much the spoon was originally purchased for. She ships in and out of state, which has allowed her rings to go much further than she ever thought they could. Haley also expanded her business by including special order options. Followers are now able to directly message the business with an idea of what type of design they’re looking for and Haley will order a spoon off of Etsy or Ebay matching that description. This special order edition has enabled fans to get a more personalized ring, which is what Haley wanted.

Made by Wade is a fairly new business since it’s only been running for a little over 2 months, but it has been extremely successful. She’s had over 100 orders and continues to get new orders almost every day. She continues to go to local antique stores to get content to post on her Ringstagram. Haley looks forward to the future of Made by Wade and hopes to one day sell her rings at local boutiques or even open an Etsy shop.
