Soap: It’s Not Just for Preventing COVID Anymore
For some reason, eyebrows are always the thing making or breaking the makeup trends we’ve seen over the years. We somehow went from the over plucked brow in the 2000s, to the tragically overfilled ‘Instagram Brow’ that really put the ‘bad’ in ‘Instabaddie,’ and as of late, everyone has been rocking full and natural brows.
With Anastasia Beverly Hills brow products being cast to the side, a new product is entering the spotlight, and thankfully, it comes at a much more reasonable price point. Soap brows have taken TikTok by storm but the question remains, do they actually work?
We had our skepticism, since bar soap on your face is the #1 offense against the skincare gods, but the results we were seeing on TikTok made us think it may be worth it. The first step is getting the right soap. We’re working with bar soap, but try and avoid any white or colored soap, as it will leave your brows chalky. Your best bet is to use a transparent, glycerin-based soap (we used Dial Gold). If you have sensitive skin, opt for one that caters to your skin type since it’ll be on your brows all day.
The process for actually doing them is pretty simple. First and foremost, if you’re someone who fills their brows in to add color, you may want to consider dyeing them so you don’t have brow products getting mixed up with the soap. We already wrote an article all about how to tint your brows at home, so check it out here.
Now that we’re ready to start, the first thing you’ll want to do is wet your bar of soap, but not so much that it creates a lather. Just get it a little damp, and then roll a spoolie in it to coat it. Once your spoolie is fully coated, all you need to do is run it through your brows. You can play around to see what shape you like and once you find one, we recommend pressing your finger through your brows in the direction of your hair to press it down on your skin, almost like a laminating effect. There’s probably going to be some excess soap on your face, so once you get your brows in place, clean up the edges with a q-tip.
So the verdict? We love it. But it’s probably not practical for when you’re rocking a full face of makeup. Like we said, the soap will get all over your forehead, so it’s going to be tough to create full look with the soap brows. If you’re doing a full face, we recommend using a brow gel like NYX’s Control Freak Eyebrow Gel. However, we LOVE the soap brows for when you’re going bare-faced. Pair these full, face-framing brows with your fave mascara, and you’re ready to go!
