Free People Movement: The Quarantine Craze that Stuck Around

Free People Movement was launched in early 2020 as Free People’s brand-spanking-new activewear line. FPM absolutely blew up and for the first few months styles were going out of stock every few days. Now, Free People’s active line hosts hundreds of styles in rainbows of unique colors. Never before have we online shopped for a sports bra and been torn between well over twenty gorgeous shades. Not only this, but many of their hundreds of styles come in trendy patterns as well, from sky blue tie dye, to purple cheetah. The aesthetic appeal of Free People Movement was enough for us, so over the past year we’ve created a collection of a vast array of workout pieces from this line, and we’re ranking our favorites for you here.

“Good Karma Crop” tank top

This is our absolute favorite workout tank EVER! The Good Karma crop currently comes in over 25 different shades, making it hard to choose just one. We love this tank so much because of the stretchy, soft material that molds to your body- it is certainly a unique workout fabric. This tank is even cool enough to transition outside of the gym (or yoga mat). Our only disclaimer here is that this may not be for our bustier girls, as the tank offers minimal built-in support.

“Good Karma” running and bike shorts

Coming in at second is another Good Karma piece- this fabric is just too good to be true! The shorts come in two different lengths- the running shorts are shorter and the bike shorts are a more traditional, long bike short. The suuuuper high waisted ribbed waistband is ultra flattering, and we feel comfortable in these shorts even when we’re feeling bloated. The shorter length also doesn’t seem to ride up when working out, which is a huge plus.

“Good Karma” sports bra

Surprise surprise, another item from the Good Karma line (we promise it’s worth the hype). This sports bra is a unique square neck shape, and comes in nearly thirty colors. It is ultra stretchy, and a bit less expensive than competing brands. This supportive, stretchy, cute, comfy sports bra’s only fault is that it doesn’t seem to hold up as well to normal wear and tear. One of our Good Karma bras grew a small hole after a few months, however we still love this piece.

“Prajna” short

The Prajna shorts are a high-rise, shorter bike short, but the inseam is longer than classic short spandex. We think these are the perfect length for tighter workout shorts! This style also comes in over twenty colors, and has an average 4.7 star rating from over 250 reviews- enough said! We like that these shorts are durable and practical, while feeling like comfy loungewear. More bonuses? They don’t break the bank, and offer several matching tops!

“The Way Home” shorts

These shorts are unlike all others we’ve seen. The material is that of a windbreaker: a light, breathable nylon that still offers full coverage. These are also exceptionally flattering because of their thick, ultra high-waist, scrunch-y waistband. This feature gives a slimming look to any figure, and makes us feel extra-confident during our workouts! The Way Home shorts come in six colors at an affordable $30 and seven additional prints for $50. We definitely recommend these as a workout staple!

“Free Throw” crop

If you’re looking for a simple, less expensive, compression crop tank: look no further. This crop tank is made of ribbed material, and sports a racerback. While we find this to be plenty supportive for smaller busts, it also allows room for an additional sports bra for extra support. We think this is one of the more flattering crop movement tanks we’ve seen, and comes in twenty colors!

“Good Karma” leggings

As our final favorite, we must include the Good Karma leggings! These come in thirty solid colors, as well as varying tie-dyes, camo prints, and crop versions. Our only downfall to these is the two sizes: xs/s and m/l. While this applies to many of the other styles, we find these to be less stretchy and fitting of many sizes. As a size 4, the xs/s is almost too tight, but the m/l is a bit large in the waist. Nonetheless, if you can find an ideal fit, these leggings are a dream! They are a cheaper alternative to competing brands, with far more room for creativity.

The Free People Movement brand is still expanding, and there are so many more styles to try! They offer all kinds of onesies, sweatpants, and jackets in addition to workout tops, sports bras, leggings, and shorts. We think these clothes are best suited for gentler workouts such as cycling or yoga, but there are styles for every activity! We love there original styles, and even better, the company is donating a small percentage of all activewear sales to Girls Inc; a non-profit organization helping young women in many sectors of life.
