Is Coach Making a Comeback?
From rural outlet malls to Fifth Avenue, Coach is literally everywhere. In recent years it has fallen to become a backup brand for many fashion-forward shoppers; however, this is slowly changing as the brand recently released a new line of trendy bags perfect for Spring and Summer.
Founded in the 1940s as Manhattan Leather Bags by Lillian and Miles Chan, the brand designed and manufactured leather bags that were inspired by the craftsmanship of baseball mitts. As the bags grew in popularity the price point was adjusted to become more affordable for the average consumer. As such, Coach became a trailblazer brand for the industry taking the title of affordable luxury. The signature collection launched in 2001 and featured a double “C” logo. This trend took over and for years the brand was dominated by bags that were covered in the logo print.
Today, the brand is moving in a more minimalist direction and playing with color in an effort to stay relevant. One of the new bags for this season is the Pillow Tabby Shoulder Bag 26. Retailing for $495, the bag is a redesigned version of the original 1940 bag featuring plush leather and gold-brushed hardware. The second Summer must-have is the Ergo Shoulder Bag 33. Also retailing for $495, the bag is small enough for everyday use but large enough to throw in a beach towel too.
With such fun colors available for purchase Coach is catching the eye of Millennials and Gen-Z’ers alike, shifting the target market from older adults to young adults and even teens. For under $500 apiece, these are great entry-level bags to begin building a timeless collection of your own.
