What Your Fashion Aesthetic Says About Your Future Home

There have been a number of distinct fashion aesthetics popping up recently, and we have all started to adopt different ones into our daily style. Most people would say their style somewhat matches their personality, but it’s harder to say the same about their home décor (especially if you’re in college and still live with your parents like us). Nevertheless, we love fantasizing about our future homes and what they will look like, so we’ve composed a list of popular fashion trends and home aesthetics to match!!

Cottagecore

Think fairytale. The cottagecore fashion aesthetic is mostly flowy, floral dresses, throw in some corsets and puffed sleeves and you’ve got it. People with this style look like they are fully prepared to enter an alternate universe where they have a fairy godmother at any second, and it’s AMAZING. The outfits are so elegant yet playful and we’re here for it. Houses that fit this aesthetic are, obviously, cottages. Light pinks, greens, and cream would be found in a house with this kind of décor as well as large windows, natural lighting, and LOTS OF PLANTS.

Dark Academia

The dark academia aesthetic has gotten very popular in the last few months. This aesthetic gives us major Harry Potter vibes—the dark sweaters, sophisticated outfits, etc. It is basically based on the idea of the arts, Greek mythology, and classic literature. If your style is dark academia, a perfect house to match would be something with grand staircases, a library, dark woods, minimal light, and possibly even some deep green or red accents. Think Hogwarts, but as a house!

Minimalistic

The minimalistic style is a classic aesthetic. Very sophisticated, with neutral-colored clothing that includes trousers, sweaters, ribbed tank tops, and lapel coats. This aesthetic screams girl-boss. Minimalistic homes tend to have open floor plans with minimal furniture, white walls, black accents, and at least one (usually fake) plant in every room. Lightwoods and lots of natural lighting with big windows complete the minimalistic home aesthetic.

Eclectic Chic

Someone with an eclectic style chooses bright colors and unique patterns over neutrals. They aren’t afraid to mix patterns or color-block here and there. They go against the grain of “regular fashion” and make their own unique style choices. For a house with an eclectic vibe, we imagine there are lots of bright colors, oriental rugs, random knickknacks, and accent walls. The exterior doesn’t matter as much with eclectic homes—it’s what’s on the inside that counts!

Edgy

An “edgy” style can be described in many ways, but for the purpose of this article, we are narrowing the style down to the dark colors, chains, layering, etc. It is a simple style for the most part, but it is one of the styles that stands out the most. Many people are too afraid to venture over to the dark side, but those who are brave enough pull it off. Similarly, houses tend to be more light colors to make it seem more open, but for someone with an edgy style we think continuing the dark colors into the home would be a *good* bold move. Lots of black, maybe some dark tans, and minimal lighting to add that ~ominous~ feel.
