Looking Back: Lessons We Can Learn From Meghan Markle’s, The Tig
Even as early as five or six years ago, not many people knew who the now Duchess of Sussex was. Fast forward to today, Meghan Markle is now a household name, and has probably been on the television of many since the beginning of March 2021. Before becoming engaged to Prince Harry, Meghan was a successful actress on the hit television show Suits playing the character of Rachel Zane, a paralegal at a large law firm named Pearson Hardman located in New York City.
As Meghan rose to fame and became more and more well known, she began her own blog called The Tig, to document what she calls, “An understanding that comes with living your life to the fullest so that it bursts at the seams. An unbridled joy. An insatiable curiosity.” Not only was she a successful actress and humanitarian (and she still is), but she accumulated a devoted audience who regularly followed her journeys and articles through her blog.
We managed to find the archives of her popular blog, which has since been shut down after things began getting serious with her relationship with Prince Harry, and comb through some of the best (and genuine) advice, recipes, and travel recommendations given by the one and only Meghan Markle, herself.
The Recipes: First and foremost, food. Meghan’s foodie side definitely shines through in The Tig. The blog serves up some delicious looking dishes one can make and home, and she also interviews some very accomplished chefs. You can find a list of some of our favorite, standout recipes below with a link to which page they’re posted on:
Spaghetti Alla Chitarra - Meghan suggests eating this dish with one of her favorite wines (she actually named her blog after this one), Tignanello
Nori Rolls - A great choice for our veggie lovers
Ginger Berry Crumble - This is a fairly simple recipe with minimal ingredients
Açai Bowl - A nice, guilt-free treat for any time of day
Chocolate Petit Gateaux - Because there’s really nothing to dislike about this one
The Drinks: You can never go wrong with the perfect wine or cocktail. Pair them up with the right dishes and ingredients, and you’re setting yourself for success. This can also help you look like a fantastic dinner party host, so we highly recommend it.
Meghan’s List of Summer Wines - Perfect for the soon-to-come summer months!
French Wine & Cheese Pairings (yes please!)
The TIG Cup - A Tig-version of the classic Pimm’s Cup using fresh, seasonal ingredients
The Travel Tips & Destinations:
Greece - Hydra, Greece to be exact. Meghan recommends her readers, even if they have never even heard of the island before, to go visit if they ever have the chance
Paris - There’s a whole, long page dedicated just to Meghan’s favorite spots around Paris. She’s listed her favorite places to stay, eat, shop, the whole package
London - Meghan lists out her favorite (and frankly, very classy and beautiful looking), go-to locations in the English capital. The list includes Columbia Road Flower Market, places to shop like Mouki Mou, and Rochelle Canteen in Shoreditch
Malta - This island obviously holds a special place in Meghan’s heart. She lists out some beautiful places for sightseeing and posted some of her own beautiful photos of the country. We’ll definitely be following her advice should we ever get the chance to visit
Jamaica - Meghan’s posts of Negril, Jamaica follows where she stayed, what she wore, and like the rest, where you, the reader, should eat. We should really start planning our next vacations
*Meghan Travel Essentials - This list includes travel sanitizer spray (guess she was ahead of the game there), Neosporin, her favorite carry-on luggage, tips on how not to feel jetlagged, and more!.
Reading Lists: For those whose New Year's resolutions include reading more books, consider Meghan’s list, found here and here.
Meghan also writes many blog posts about the importance of empowering women and helping them see their “value as leaders.” She was able to speak at UN Women and champion female owned businesses, global opportunities for women, and helping to empower those around her. She focuses on gratitude, and just by reading through her old posts on The Tig one can really gain an understanding and appreciation of the kind of person she is. She reflects on what it’s like to grow up mixed race, and she invites everyone into her online community. We can only hope that one day (fingers crossed!) she may relaunch The Tig ;)
