The Spray-On Dress in Paris

As always, Miss Bella Hadid killed it at Paris Fashion Week. But this time, the dress looked a little different.

Hadid closed for Coperni’s spring-summer 2023 show by having a dress sprayed onto her in front of a live audience. Yes—sprayed.  Hadid walked onto the runway in nothing but underwear to meet Manel Torres, the creator of this spray-on fabric technology (branded ‘Fabrican’) as well as two scientists who would work their magic. These three went to work covering Hadid in this liquid, initially looking like spider webs. The spray began to form into a gorgeous piece of fabric. The Head of Design, Charlotte Raymond, then came out onto the stage to make the stunning neckline and dramatic leg slit. Simply put, we at The Edge were stunned. And as Bella Hadid said, “I think that was the best moment of my life”.

The technology behind this dress has been in the works for over 10 years, and the debut last Friday was seamless. Sadly, none of us will be able to get our hands on this fabric. Coperni’s CEO and Co-Founder shared that they do not plan to sell this material or dress, and that this was more to extend a “celebration of innovation and having strong moments in fashion.” This dress will be on display in the Coperni showroom.

Well done, Coperni. The future of fashion is looking incredible.

We can’t wait to keep an eye on how this look continues to inspire designers.
