Meditation: the Importance of Being In Touch With Your Emotions
Life is crazy. This is no surprise; time flies by before we even get to have a breather, before we even get a minute to look around and take everything in. Sometimes the day goes by so quickly, the next thing you know you’re going to sleep and getting ready for the next day.
Although the fast-paced excitement can be loads of fun, we still need time to just be at peace and relax. For myself personally, relaxing and being present is something I’ve really been working on because I’m an obsessive planner. “You need to relax,” my dad always tells me. And he’s right—relaxing and being in touch with how you feel is so vital for your mental health.
Here at The Edge, we’re passionate about prioritizing mental health, which is why we believe meditation is such a useful practice in order to achieve this. The Cambridge Dictionary defines meditation as “the act of giving your attention to only one thing, either as a religious activity or as a way of becoming calm and relaxed,” or “serious thought or study, or the product of this activity”. Meditation can look different for everyone. It could be listening to relaxing music and sounds and sitting peacefully alone, or it could simply be lying down, focusing on one thing and just being in your own company for a while. We promise that after practicing meditation for just a short period of time, you’ll realize how amazing it is for your mental health.
Okay, here are some tips for us to get into the practice of meditation. Try using an app to help guide you! The Edge suggests you download ‘The Calm App’. The Calm App is the #1 app for meditation and sleep, they provide ways to help reduce stress and anxiety, improve sleep quality, improve focus and concentration, and you can also personalize it to your liking!
As we stated before, life is crazy. Life moves so quickly as it is, and if we don’t stop to take a breath once and while, we’re going to run out of fuel. Meditation allows us to just stop, and even if it’s only for a little, it allows us to breathe and connect with how we’re truly feeling inside. The next time you’re feeling stressed or overwhelmed, challenge yourself to meditate. Challenge yourself to truly stop. We promise that your mind will be so much clearer and ready to take on the day if you just take a second to breathe and relax. Thus, here’s to meditation and being in touch with your emotions, because being an emotionally intelligent person is very cool in 2022.
