Modest is Hottest?

It’s about that time of year when dressing in basically business casual for family events becomes a regular thing. It’s also about that time of year when grandmas start saying “you’re wearing THAT to dinner?” Ah, family. Although this time of year can be occasionally painful in the fashion department, we’re here to tell you that you CAN make modest the hottest style of this holiday season.

Trousers

Trousers have gotten a lot of attention these past couple years, and we are here for the hype. They are an amazing piece to use to your advantage when coming up with stylish (and modest) outfits. Have fun with the color and the fabric, and pair it with a simple sweater or bodysuit for a cute look that even your grandma will love.

Midi Skirts

Midi skirts are a great hack for making a cute outfit that the whole family will approve of. You could pair a midi skirt with a nice tee and a jacket for a simple look. You could also use sundresses from the summer season and layer a sweater over top to create the illusion of a midi skirt! If it’s cold, pair the skirt with boots to keep in some heat.

Sweaters

This is a given for holiday dinners, but make sure to have fun with it! You can totally still wear grandparent-approved outfits while adding your own twist to it. Find a multi-colored sweater you love and pair it with jeans or a maxi skirt for a cute, timeless look.

Layering

Layering is one of the best ways to prepare a cute, comfortable and appropriate outfit for holiday family functions. Try pairing a sweater vest with a long sleeve to stay warm and look cool for dinner. Another way to layer is putting a tank top under a cardigan to add dimension to your outfit. And, maybe a jacket over top of that, depending on the temp outside, obvi.

These are some of our basic tips for getting through this season of ~cautious style~. At the end of the day, wear whatever the hell you want. Modest definitely does not have to be hottest and is not the only way to dress for this time of year. If anyone has anything to say about your outfit, tell them to respectfully kiss your reindeer (festive!). But, if you want some tips, these are ours.
