The Rise of Popular Mind-Body Exercises

As we enter the holiday season, the fast-paced rush of things brings a lot of stress. The holidays are great, don't get us wrong, but they can be packed. It’s easy to lose a sense of routine. With the holidays comes winter. It is a time of cold, darkness and days filled on the couch. Working out and exercising are the least of your worries. Don’t worry, though; we’ve got you covered! Let’s talk about some popular mind-body exercises we love to practice in any season, no matter the weather.

Pilates

Pilates is a great form of exercise that focuses on improving body strength, specifically the core. It uses controlled movements and specific breathing techniques. Pilates can be performed in multiple ways - without equipment on the floor or a mat, or in a studio with specific pilates equipment. It looks scary at first, but the equipment is so easy to use!

Yoga

Yoga is the queen of mind and body practice. It involves a combination of physical movement, breathing techniques and relaxation or meditation. You can practice yoga anywhere - in a studio, in your room or in your mind. It is amazing for your well-being. According to Medical News Today, yoga is great for endurance, strength, flexibility and well-being. There are also different types and forms of yoga, so try exploring those!

Walking

Stepping outside for a few minutes a day is so beneficial. It can lower stress levels, improve your mental health and can be a social activity. Hot Girl Walks are real. Throw on your cutest workout set, put on some sneakers and grab your friends or family members. We promise Hot Girl Walks are such a good vibe. Try walking somewhere new - on a hiking trail, in your neighborhood, in the park, in the city, on a treadmill, etc. There’s so many options!

Dance

If you have never taken some sort of dance class, sign up right now. It is such a great way to feel happy and burn calories! Dance fitness classes like Zumba, Jazzercise, Salsa, Ballroom, etc. are also a great way to meet new people or go with friends. If you don’t like going to the gym alone, a group class while following a skilled instructor is an easy way to stay active. We at The Edge love a good Zumba class.

Barre

Barre is a full-body workout inspired by elements of yoga, ballet and pilates. It utilizes a ballet barre. For all you fellow dancers out there, you know what’s up! Women’s Health states that barre is a low-impact, high intensity workout that strengthens your body. You might focus on various sessions designed to strengthen certain body areas such as legs, core, arms and glutes. Don’t worry though! Barre is for everyone, no matter your skill level. It is a very adaptable and friendly workout. We totally recommend it!

All of the exercises or workouts mentioned above are perfect for any location, no matter if you are home for the holidays, traveling or staying in a hotel. Modify these to you and your schedule. It’s such an easy way to have fun, get your body moving and keep up a routine. We promise these workouts can fill you with a healthy and happy amount of cheer!
