Christmas Time in The City

There are few places as enchanting as New York City during Christmas. If you have ever been during the season, you know that holiday cheer fills the air. With every storefront decorated, and the city twinkling with lights, it’s easy to feel like you’re the star of the newest hallmark movie. Here are our top picks for holiday markets and must-see destinations in the Big Apple.

Rockefeller Center is the perfect place to begin your journey in the city’s winter wonderland. Seeing the famous 80-foot-tall spruce tree that is brought in annually is essential if you visit during the season. Fifty-thousand twinkling lights cover the tree, and even more lights line the picturesque ice rink below it. The streets near Rockefeller Center are great for shopping and eating, so make sure you plan to spend time in the area.

There are numerous Christmas markets in Manhattan, and it can be overwhelming to choose which ones to see, especially if you have limited time. Union Square is a great place to start! The festive winter market is definitely worth a visit, with tons of stands selling desserts, drinks, and decadent foods. Here at The Edge, we recommend trying the famous S’more hot cocoa from Rubyzaar! With 150 local vendors, Union Square is a great stop to shop and enjoy some holiday merriment. Since the market is in high demand, we recommend going during the week or at midday to avoid crowds.

You may know Hudson Yards for its excellent shopping and dining, but don’t underestimate the incredible Christmas display. Shine Bright at Hudson Yards features over 2 million shimmering lights, photos with Santa, a secret speakeasy and different holiday-themed celebrations each day! Hudson Yards is perfect for pictures. Lights cascade from floor to ceiling in the multiple-story Great Room. The Hudson Yards website recommends taking pictures in front of the 32-foot hot air balloon. After snapping the perfect photo, you can do some holiday gift shopping or reserve a table at one of the many excellent restaurants.

Bryant Park winter village, located in Midtown Manhattan, is the perfect ending to the perfect winter day. During the holidays, Bryant Park livens up with Christmas shops, delicious food, and hot chocolate stands. Wander in and out of the festive stalls, ride the carousel or just explore the park. Bryant Park has a beautiful ice rink, so make sure you book a time to lace up your skates and cherish every part of this beautiful holiday season.

We wish you a happy and safe holiday season, and don’t forget to tag us @theedgemag if you visit any of these wonderful places in the city!
