Faux Leather Pants: A Fashion Staple Or A Trend?
The newest clothing item that everyone seems to have in their closet has taken Elon by storm: faux leather pants. Every weekend, many girls wear leather pants. They are extremely versatile and can be worn on a multitude of occasions. Whether it's the classic Elon darty, a night party, a fancy dinner, or just to go to class, there are so many ways to style this one simple item.
While seeing the phenomenon spread, we at The Edge have started to wonder whether leather pants will stay a trend that will eventually phase out, kind of like shutter shades, or become a classic fashion staple like the little black dress. There are two things to consider when thinking about this: what makes a piece of clothing a fashion staple and what determines it as a trend. A staple is not controlled by trends and is timeless, while a trend is popular for a period of time but then dwindles away. At The Edge, we believe that leather pants will eventually hit their end point. Leather clothing has been in and out of the fashion scene many times. The material has seen almost every clothing item, from skin tight leather dresses to leather jackets to the new leather pants. However, just like the other pieces of clothing, leather pants will also run their course.
At the moment, the faux leather pants trend is about to be in full force. It started in the middle/end of 2020, and by March of 2021, most girls had at least one pair of leather pants in their closet. But then there are the pants' different styles: tight, boyfriend style, baggy, or flared. Just like how it is with jeans, skin tight pants are rapidly falling out of style, but the mom jean, baggy look is sticking around. The comfort and ease of these types of pants are making them more popular than they were before. So it’s easy to think that those types of leather pants will stick around for a decent amount of time.
To sum it up, this is your time to go get yourself a pair of leather pants and wear them whenever you want, but you may run the risk of looking back on old photos from college and thinking, “why would I have ever bought those pants, what was I thinking”. But hey, then you can tell your kids it was just the style back then.
