The Skin Routine to Prep for the Biggest Drinking Day of the Year

Whether you’re attending the biggest party of the year or grabbing a few drinks with friends at the bar, you're all consuming the same thing. Sadly not water, but alcohol. A day full of drinking will have you look and feel a certain way the next morning. Here at The Edge, we’re here to share our secrets to avoid those pimples, dry skin and crazy hangovers.

First, let’s talk about what alcohol does to your skin. It dehydrates your body as it takes all the fluid out of the skin and causes inflammation. If your face is red and flushed, that’s why. Alcohol makes your skin break out and appear puffy. It’s just not cute.

To avoid all of this, here is what we recommend for your skin:

Drink water. Water is the best thing you can do for your body whether you’re drinking or not. Try to drink 9 -11 cups a day for ultimate hydration.

Exercise regularly if you can. Working out improves blood flow, making your skin glow and clearing your pores as well.

Change your sheets. Pillowcases and bedsheets should be washed a few times a month to ensure you have a clean space to sleep on.

Don’t cake your face with makeup. Try to find lightweight foundations that don’t clog your pores, or skip foundation altogether. Concealer is your new best friend.

Now, the part we’ve all been waiting for: the ultimate skin routine.

It is actually quite simple. Do this before you go out and you’re set!

  1. Cleanse → Remove your makeup with a cleansing wipe or micellar water. Then, wash your face with whatever cleanser is your fav. We love a good CeraVe or Glossier wash.

  2. Use a tool → Now, it’s time to depuff. A good ice roller or gua sha is the move.

  3. Exfoliate → Grab a mask. An exfoliating mask will reduce inflammation and even out your skin tone.

  4. Re-Hydrate → Remember to hydrate. Use a face mist or serum

  5. Moisturize → Treat your skin to prevent dryness with a moisturizer of choice.

  6. Be Happy → Your face is officially ready for the day.

Remember, you don’t need red hair to celebrate this holiday. Prep your skin, wear some green and grab a drink. You will have the best St. Patrick’s Day ever.
