Pearlcore…A New Fashion Trend
Let us share some pearls of wisdom. There’s a new fashion trend called Pearlcore, a modern twist that combines the sophistication from the Roaring Twenties (think Flapper girl) with the elegance and glamour of the 1930s. Not only worn on jewelry pieces, pearlcore encourages us to accessorize this gem on shoes, jackets, sweaters, and headbands.
Pearls have remained a status symbol, a timeless treasure that continues to evolve into a relevant fashion statement. As a child, you may remember wearing your grandma’s strands while playing dress-up, buying fake pearl earrings at Claire’s in the mall, using the buy one get two free coupons, and styling the popular black string choker with a big pearl in the center when you became a teenager. Pearls instill confidence and courage, and after the pandemic caused several years of hardship, we welcome the renaissance of the pearl: denim and pearls, suede and pearls, black blazers and pearls.
These precious jewels hold a greater value than we think. While a symbol of elegance, honesty, integrity, and wisdom, a pearl’s underwater luster contributes to its perfectionism. Yet, this disguised token of femininity is why these gems appear throughout our history and, just like pearls, string through generations.
Also referred to as the “Queen of Gems,” cultural icons from Coco Chanel to Audrey Hepburn and Jackie Kennedy to Michelle Obama, wore pearls as their staple pieces and paved the way for designers like Tom Ford to rock the runway for the Spring 2022 Ready-to-Wear Fashion Show referred to by media moguls as “razzle dazzle casual,” where the pearls add glam to the flapper feel seen a century ago.
Below are some looks from the Tom Ford Spring 2022 Ready-to-Wear Fashion Show:
The world is your oyster, as pearls can be worn in any outfit whether brunch with the girls or a night out on the town. This Amazon Women's Studded Denim Washed Pearl Short Jean Coat is fun to throw over a T-Shirt or a little black dress. They say diamonds are a pearl’s (or girl’s) best friend, and Zara’s Textured Weave Dress With Faux Pearls is super cute with a plaid pattern and cut out sides lined with pearls and other gems. Finally, Anthropologie’s Embellished Headband is the perfect combination of preppy and boho that could turn any casual outfit into a planned look for the days you do not want to do your hair.
