The Top Fall/Winter New York Fashion Week Beauty Trends of 2022

New York Fashion Week is one of the biggest events in the fashion and beauty industries. Occurring semi-annually in September and February each year, it’s a time when international fashion collections are shown to buyers, the press, and the general public. During these few days, we not only see some of the biggest names in fashion showcasing their creativity, but also unique hair and makeup that truly brings the looks to life. If it wasn’t for the beauty aspect, the story that the designer is trying to convey would be left incomplete.

Here at The Edge, our eyes have been glued to the runway to take inventory of the next biggest trends–and let’s just say, based on some of the looks we saw, it’s clear that we’re entering into an exciting season of beauty. We’ve rounded up five hair, makeup, and nail trends from the Fall/Winter 2022 Fashion Week.

Makeup

Cool red pouts

The deep, cool-toned red lipstick that we saw featured in the Tory Burch show really caught our eyes. Handpicked by makeup artist Diane Kendal, it was an ode to the ‘90s. ‘90s glam has definitely made a comeback with the color extravaganza of bright eyeshadows, lipsticks and unforgettable glitter – and it’s certainly here to stay.

Kendal skipped the lip liner and went straight in with an icy-bold red, achieving a more “modern” application with the help of a trusty lip brush. At the Michael Kohrs show, red lips and classic black smokey eyes were also a popular combination.

Nocturnal eyes

The “nocturnal eye” look was a standout part of the Echaus Latta show. Innovatively implemented by makeup artist Fara Homidi, the eyes were carelessly rimmed with bits of grease and chunky glitter. The lack of direction in the look made it dreary and ominous.

This look is incredibly easy to replicate at home with MAC Cosmetics' Prolong Wear Eye Liner and Brow Gel ($19), Prep and Prime 24-Hour Extended Eye Base ($25) and turquoise or black glitter.

Hair

Bejeweled hair

Bronx and Banco’s newest collection draws inspiration from ‘80s megawatt glamour, and the hair looks definitely matched that electric energy. Moroccanoil’s artist and director Kevin Hughes designed the models’ bejeweled hair parts.

Gravity-defying updos

Natural hair was quite literally taken to new heights at the Collina Strada show. Model Indira Scott was seen rocking a ceiling-bound ponytail by hairstylist Mideyah Parker. At the No Sesso show, model Sade Keinu strutted down the runway with a sky-high updo that was nothing short of show-stopping.

Nails

Contrasting tones

Inspired by the contrasting light and dark blue tones from Christian Siriano’s collection, nail artist Gina Edwards designed this chic two-toned manicure. She used shades from OPI's XBOX and Downtown LA collections, starting with the Natural Nail Base Coat ($10). She then applied two coats of the Nail Lacquer in "Cant CTRL Me" ($10) and allowed it to dry. Using a striper brush, she then drew a free-forming “S” using the Nail Lacquer in “Isn’t It Grand Avenue” ($11) and filled it in. To seal the manicure, she applied the brand's Top Coat.

Being that it’s so hard to pick a favorite look, we can confidently say that this year’s Fall/Winter New York Fashion Week was one for the books. We can’t wait to see how these trends evolve in the upcoming months. If you decide to try out any of these looks on yourself, make sure you DM your photos to @theedgemag on Instagram.
