Unpacking BEIS, Shay Mitchell's Travel Brand
If you’ve scrolled through TikTok recently, you’ve probably seen a post or two about BÉIS. BÉIS Travel is actress Shay Mitchell’s brand, who you might recognize from the hit television series “Pretty Little Liars”. On their website, Shay explains that she started the brand after her own travels: “After countless trips and #Shaycations, I realized that I wanted to create amazing, affordable pieces for travelers like myself and—in turn—inspire everyone to seek new places, meet new people and share the world.” Her goal? To bring cute, functional, and affordable luggage to the market that also has a purpose when you’re not traveling at all.
Despite being launched in 2018, it didn’t take off in popularity until after the COVID-19 pandemic. When the world went into lockdown, the BÉIS team quickly pivoted their marketing strategies and targeted their messaging about being “on-the-go” rather than jet-setting across the country. Their quick thinking worked, and as we near the end of 2022, BÉIS is more popular than ever.
A just-released item? The Expandable Backpack. TikTok user @vicky.conroy posted a video showcasing all that the bag can fit. While their regular backpack has been a constant bestseller, this new version expands for even more space for stuff. It has every feature you could ever possibly need: a laptop sleeve, a water bottle pocket, a key leash and even a sleeve so that it can slip on your rolling suitcase. Vicky’s video is what really does the backpack justice, though; the fact that THAT much stuff can be fit in a personal item is beyond me. Another bonus? It doesn’t even look bulky! It’s functional and sleek, just like many of its other products.
BÉIS also focuses on non-travel items such as diaper bags, cosmetic bags and totes. They have something for everyone, and focus on neutral tones such as black and cream, allowing their products to match every outfit in your closet. As far as luggage goes, it is significantly more affordable than other popular travel brands, such as AWAY. While an AWAY carry-on will cost you $275, BÉIS sells for $198.
Celebrity brands sometimes miss, but BÉIS definitely doesn’t. They not only fulfill Mitchell’s goals but surpass them, as all of the items are extremely cute and extremely functional.
